The first thing you should do with a new memory card is format it in your camera. You will find the format function in your camera's menus. Once the card is formatted in your camera it should work. If you then want to use it in another camera, you may need to reformat it for that camera.

Check the camera's settings, the photos maybe stored in the camera's internal memory and not being stored on the memory card.

I have purchased a san disk memory card but its reading full when i go to take a picture it is new and has never been used

New cards need to be formatted in the camera before use. Also, if you've used the internal memory of the camera, it too, will need to be formatted with no card in the camera.

Any suggestions on what SD card to use with this camera?

I put in a san disk ultra II 1.0 gb and it works fine. I don't know if it means anthing but my card is the breakable kind. You can break it down to go in a computer. I could not turn my camera off, I could not load pictures, it would tell me that my card is full and i was ready to throw it across the room. It works great now!!!

WHEN I INSERT CARD, CAMERA SAID CAN NOT BE USED.

the 4800 is a older model that won't support a sdhc card-go back to 2gb or smaller and problem solved-don't waste money on high speed cards for a basic point and shoot camera

Error message on san disk sd card

You may have answered your own question. There is a good chance that your memory card has reached the end of its life. You might try reformatting the card with the computer and then do the format in the camera. This has worked for me before.
