First you need to make sure that your computer meets the following specifications:
- 300 MHz (or higher processor)
- Intel Pentium/Celeron or AMD K6/Athlon/Duron compatible processor.
- 128 MB of RAM (or higher)
- 1.5 Gigabytes of available hard disk space
- Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher resolution video adapter and monitor.
I am sure that your computer likely meets all of these requirements, but I posted them to save you the grief if by chance it does not meet one of the above!
In a moment I will post a link to a website where you can purchase an upgrade to Microsoft Windows XP home edition (Service Pack 2).
Once you have the software, start up windows 2000 and place the disk into the CDROM drive. You should be given an option to upgrade to XP. (make sure you start the disk while you are on the Windows 2000 desktop with all programs closed). After XP is installed if your computer does not have an Antivirus program installed, I strongly recommend either installing Norton Antivirus or AVG. AVG is free and can be downloaded from http://www.avg.com/
. Then make sure that your windows firewall is turned on. (It should be automatically) After this go to Microsoft.com and download service pack 3 and any additional updates needed.
The upgrade version of Windows XP home with service pack 2 can be purchased from newegg.com by clicking on this link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16837116194
I hope that this information has been helpful to you. Please let me know if you have any other questions!
