When the CPU overheats then it will shutdown (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down.If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes this problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan. If the fan and heat sink is clogged withdust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use acan of compressed air to do this.

You either need to get a laptop computer technician to replace the fan, or you need to find a replacement fan and install it your-self.

Choose which ever option best suits you.

Take care!

Notebook 3521 is shutting down after some minutes for unknown reasons. Any suggestion about the problema?

Common problems are faulty battery, or overheating due to faulty fan. If the machine shuts down when on mains power, listen carefully for the fan. If the fan is silent or slow , you could try using a vacuum cleaner to clear any fluff out of the fan unit or get hold of a laptop cooler tray. If the unit doesn't shut down on mains power, you should get the battery checked.

Overheating dell laptop

Laptops tend to overheat when air flow is not good. To prevent it from overheating make sure you have the fans cleaned, there are plenty of tutorials out there on how to do it, or just go to your local shop and ask them to do it. if all else fails you may need to acquire a fan base, they are pretty cheap and can make a huge difference!

Dell inspiron n 4010 hangs often

I suggest you open the laptop, and clean it out first. THEN go on with the diagnoses.

Dell Support > Inspiron n4010 Notebook PC > Service Manual,

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/insN4010/en/sm/index.htm

1) FIRST remove all power. Remove the AC adapter (Charger) and Battery.

2) FOLLOW Anti-Static Precautions.

Anti-Static Precautions:
Your body carries Static electricity. Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit), the delicate hardware components on a computer.

Relieve your body of Static.

You should use an ESD wrist strap, and connect it's alligator clip to a good ground source.
This is an example of an ESD wrist strap,

This pictorial guide for disassembly of an Inspiron n5010, should help also.

The screws, and cables, etc., are in a different place, but disassembly is still the same.

Use a can, or two, of compressed air for computers.
Also you may wish to use Q-tips, and a soft small brush.
(Makeup brush? )

DO NOT use a vacuum!!!!

A vacuum creates Static electricity.

After about 10 minutes, everything completely shuts down . I expect a heat sync problem? what do you think?

I think you're right. Sounds as if the system is overheating. Check the fan is working. If it is, you will probably need to open the case and clean out all the vents & the fan. Remove the heatsink, clean off old thermal paste and renew before replacing the heatsink

Inspiron 6000 shuts down while playing Magic Match. I have it sitting on external fan, so it's not overheating. This is the only game so far, that shuts it down after 15 minutes of play.

This could be down to a graphics driver that needs updating or a direct x problem. Try updating the graphics driver and see if that resolves your problem.

Overheats and shuts down after about 20 minutes

Usually when a CPU overheats it shuts down and after it cools down you can re-boot it again.
Continual overheating will eventually cause the CPU to fail.

The overheating is usually caused by blocked vents and or dust build up on the heatsink and/or fan. Remove this dust from the heatsink and fan and this should fix your overheating problem, unless you have a faulty fan, in this case you will need to replace the fan.

Dell Inspiron 8600 - overheating and shutting down

Start by cleaning the fan and heat sink. Dirt or dust build up can cause them not to work as efficiently as they should. If cleaning doesn't fix it, you might consider replacing the fan and heat sink or purchasing a cooling pad.
