Question about Canon Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

Mp160 printer prints on multiple pages, doesn't appear to be a set up problem. Re-installed drivers no change, reset printer no change. Any ideas?

Is this happening from all programs or a specific application?

  • dave57847 May 28, 2011

This is happening from all applications

I did some further investigation & it seems open office 3.3 is responcible. I set up on a different PC & it didn't work but did print from internet explorer, so previous hunch was right. Well done.

Rolled back open office to 3.1. & all started to work.

Are you saying you are getting the same page printed many times? What happens when you make a single copy? do you get one copy or multiple copies? If you get one then then it does not sound like a machine fault. I wonder how you "Reinstalled" the driver. You should do this via programs, canon, uninstall. A lot of people go to printers and right click on delete thinking that uninstalls it. Try it my way and download the latest driver from Canons website. unplug the usb cable and install the software and only plug the cable in when prompted to. Hope fully all should be well.
Now this may sound silly but if you are using windows vista then funny things can happen. Canon and vista dont go well but then what does with vista. lol

Uninstalled properly as suggested already. using XP.

It is a single copy it passes only a certain amount of data through to the printer & then begins to print, like it is too early to begin printing. The picture is then printed a little bit on the first page then a little bit on the next page etc, etc.

Thanks for thinking about this one. I have seen a similar description on another website but no one managed to resolve.

It's almost like it sees a new page command whilst it is printing.

I had this problem at work. We went from a PCL 6 driver to a Universal PCL 5 driver and it worked fine printing multiple pages. And has ever since. I would check your driver first and see if it can be updated. If so, update it and try again. If not or updating doesn't work, try a different driver, especially if you are using a PCL 6 on a 32-bit or an XP machine. Best of luck to you.

Unistall any previous you have installed for your device.

The Driver for Your Product Is Included in the Windows 7 Operating System (i.e. Win 7-32bit & 64bit).
Simply connect the printer to your computer with a USB cable, and Windows Update automatically installs the driver for your product.

Hope it helps.

When I print a one page document, tray 1 prints on multiple papers at a time. 1 page prints on 5 pages.

If you don't have a manual, you can find one here

My guess is either on the printer or the driver. Skimming the manual, it doesn't seem that you can set the default number of pages printed per sent print job on the printer, but that is something I would look into. This is a nice office printer, perhaps the printer is set to print multiple copies of everything it is sent. You could determine if it is the printer or driver/computer by printing to it from another computer.

If it is the computer, go into the control panel and select the properties for this printer. In there, check if the number of copies is improperly set to 5. This would happen for every print job sent from this system.

Does it print 5 copies of documents sent from different programs (i.e. Web Page, Word, Excel)? Quite possibly, one time you set it to print 5 copies and that application retained that as default. In that application, rather than clicking "print" click "printer setup" and look through the settings to see if it is requesting multiple copies.

I am 95% sure one of these three solutions will solve your problem.

Printer will only print page 1 of multiple page documents

1. Check that you are using the latest print driver - from kyocera website.
2. If the issue is when you print pdf files then make sure you set the printer in KPDL Auto mode - check the print driver settings about this and the printer menu.
3.You may check if you have the latest firmware installed within the printer - print a service status page (Menu->Others->Service).

Can't print landscape?

Make sure the correct printer driver is installed.Check your user guide.Read the information below.

Printer Settings
You can use the printer properties window, which allows you to
access all of the printer options you need when using your
printer. When the printer properties are displayed, you can
review and change the settings needed for your print job.
Your printer properties window may differ, depending on your
operating system. This Software User’s Guide shows the
Properties window for Windows 98.
Your printer driver Properties window that appears in this User’s
Guide may differ depending on the printer in use.
If you access printer properties through the Printers folder, you
can view additional Windows-based tabs (refer to your
Windows User’s Guide) and the Printer tab (see “Printer Tab” on
page 10).
NOTES:
• Most Windows applications will override settings you specify
in the printer driver. Change all print settings available in the
software application first, and change any remaining settings
using the printer driver.
• The settings you change remain in effect only while you are
using the current program. To make your changes
permanent, make them in the Printers folder.
• The following procedure is for Windows XP. For other
Windows OS, refer to the corresponding Windows User's
Guide or online help.
1. Click the Windows Start button.
2. Select Printers and Faxes.
3. Select your printer driver icon.
4. Right-click on the printer driver icon and select
Printing Preferences.
5. Change the settings on each tab, click OK.

Layout Tab
The Layout tab provides options to adjust how the document
appears on the printed page. The Layout Options includes
Multiple Pages per Side and Poster. See “Printing a
Document” on page 6 for more information on accessing printer
properties.
Orientation
Orientation allows you to select the direction in which
information is printed on a page.
• Portrait prints across the width of the page, letter style.
• Landscape prints across the length of the page, spreadsheet
style.
• Rotate allows you to rotate the page the selected degrees.
Layout Options
Layout Options allows you to select advanced printing options.
You can choose Multiple Pages per Side and Poster.
• For details, see “Printing Multiple Pages on One Sheet of Paper
(N-Up Printing)” on page 12.
