Question about Heating & Cooling

Rinnai Convector 516TR cannot get it to work, we turn it on green on light comes on fan starts blowing after about 15 sec. it cuts out and red light comes on.

This happens because the gas is not lit so the heater goes in fault mode. The gas is not lit because either the valve gas doesn't open or the sparker is non-operational - both will have to be checked.

if the flame does not start at all, so just ticking from the ignitor you have a main valve problem and this is expensive replacement part and it must be done by a trained gas fitter.

I have a Rinnai 516TR showing error code 62


Error Code 62, indicates a faulty fan motor. Which, according to your Owner's Manual, requires a service call by an authorized Rinnai service technician. it may not mean replacing the fan motor. It could also mean a faulty fan sensor.

OUr Rinnai gas heater convector 516tr keeps on turning itself off and flashes 12 on the light panel. What does that mean and how to fix it? tks


Hi.

12 flashes means "Incomplete combustion". The code is prompted when the flame turns off because of a problem.

Check filter, check gas pressure and thermocoupling. Those are the problem that commonly trigger the code 12 error.

Hi i have a rinni convector 516tr heater i put it on it switches off a few seconds later i think it has to do with the timers i have lost the book/


I am assuming this is a tankless heater. Are you turning the water on full throttle and is there full flow. First thing to check is the small filter screen on the inlet of the water heater. If the flow is reduced the water heat will not fire.

Mt Rinnai convector 516tr will not start, have stored it away for summer got it out for this winter plugged all in after pressing start after about 20 seconds No 11 starts flashing


I have had this problem due to the heater 's combustion sensor concluding that all was not well. In my case, the heater had burned up too much of the available oxygen. I didn't notice the lack myself, so it must be very sensitive. I had shut the place up to keep the heat in and eventually it dawned on me to open a door for a minute or so every half hour or so to replenish the oxygen supply.

The situation is worst when the place is very cold as the heater will roar away trying to heat it up as quickly as possible. After I came back for a holiday in winter, I had to set the temperature down to "L" and "Economy" on plus run an electric fan heater for a day to warm the structure to the point where the gas heater could relax and not burn oxygen faster than it could heat the space.

Hi This is happening to us and I called Rinnai... they suggested that if anyone either in our apartment or an ajoining one has painted walls or varnished a floor that the convection heater picks up the smell and the only way to get rid of it is to burn it off by running the heater for several hours in a well ventalated room...

I am going to try it tomorrow.

You have a dirty pilot assembly and maybe even a bad ECO switch (safety switch). I would suggest replacing the ECO and removing the pilot assembly and clean it out.

Hi pinkinfinite,

The 404 is a great heater. I am assuming it is a Natural Gas Heater. All it needs is a good blow out with compressed air. They tend to carbon up in the pilot light area. You will probably also find it is very dusty inside. Easiest way to clean the carbon out is to remove the hose at the heater and with compressed air blow through the fitting where you have removed the hose. Make sure you hold down the start button so the air can get through to the pilot light and jets. Don't connect the electricity for the fan when you do this.
To clean it out internally you only need to remove the front panelling. There are two screws holding the top panel (not to be confused with the side and top). The screws are located inside the bottom grill at the front. There are also screws for the bottom grill there which you will also need to remove and probably best to remove the bottom panel that house the front feet. It should expose all the inside workings of the heater except for the pilot light and jets etc. You should be able to see the fan - it is round and looks like a filter and sits behind the vent section. Make sure you give it a good blow out - it gets all dirt and dust around it. When you do it remove both the rear filters/covers. They are mesh. Blow the top one which is the larger metal one and make sure you blow inside where it fits over to remove the dust and dirt. Same with the other one which should be plastic with mesh. Once you do this put it all back together. Make sure all wires are connected and be wary with the compressed air as it may blow the connectors off from loose fitting parts. Once you get it all back together Test it and hopefully it should work. Hope this helps. I did one the same today that was having trouble starting and it now works like a new one.
