Question about Audio Technica ATH-M50 Professional Headphones

1 Answer

My Audio-Technica ATH-M50 headphones are unbalanced and I experience a light rattle with heavy bass. The quieter side is the right phone, and this is also the phone that exhibits rattling. I suspect that they were damaged in shipping. I would like to take a look inside, but I'm a bit intimidated.

Depending upon the driver material, the compliance could improve with age. Speakers are similar. A stiff new cone can become more compliant with age. Of course, the opposite also is true. Things such as rubber surrounds can dry out and disintegrate.

I was researching a similar answer and discovered that the left side ear piece actually is actually held together with 3 torx screws that are visible upon removing the ear pad and the padding surrounding the driver. I haven't had a chance to attempt a fix yet but remove those screws and see if you can open the ear piece.

I just recently got a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-ANC27 headphones and I've noticed that when I touch the detachable cable the sound shorts out and plays through one side of the headphones.

There is a wire in the detachable cable that is broken inside so might have to cut and rejoin the broken part.Thats why when you touch the detachable cable you happen to move the wire so sound is only transmitted to one ear phone only.

Thanks and good luck

All of a sudden sound is not coming in one of the channels (right). On pressing the headphone's band a bit sound comes on and goes off.

The cable connects to one headphone and then through the headband to the other side.

I sounds like the cable connecting them that runs through the headband has been damaged.

The only solution is the try and remove the cover from the headband and repair the cable.

Please leave feedback

Most headphones have screws that hold the earpiece shells together, look under the earpads for them.

Why bother trying to fix them? The warranty could expire first. Send em back.

The ath-m50 needs to be burned in?

No, headphone burn-in is largly a myth. While it is possible, from a physics standpoint that the driver material could "break-in" some with use and age, the audible difference would be so slight that it would take specialized equipment to measure the differences, which would be so small as to be unrecognizable by human hearing. Any actual "differences" in sound quality over a period of time is largly based on perception, that is the user gets used to the characteristics of the device. This has been proven time and time again through double-blind tests.

Lost sound in the right ear of my audio technica ath-d40fs

The most common problem with earphones are the wires. Usually near the end. You can carefully open the headset to expose the wire connection, and check for continuity.
