Question about HP Computers & Internet

Open Question

Have a HP Pavillion 6367c with a kb2101u wired keyboard. A couple evenings ago, was playing Microsoft Fight Sim, accidentally hit a couple of keys at the same time and now a number of keyboard keys do not work when playing that game. It works fine for everything else. What did I turn off?

SOURCE: Wireless Multimedia keyboard volume keys won't work.

Try http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932875. I found that Hidserv.dll was in the incorrect file and copied it to C:\WINDOWS\system32. Volume controls now work correctly.

SOURCE: Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 1000 v 1.0 volume keys not working

On 32-bit machines: Use the windows search feature to find "hidserv.dll." Once located, copy the file and paste it into the %systemroot%\system32\ directory. Open the "Run" dialog box by keying the windows + R. Type "services.msc" and hit enter. Locate the HID Input Service. Right click and click "start." This should solve the issue!!

SOURCE: Keys qweruiop not working on startup

Take the computer to a qualified technician, who can replace the keyboard, as the least-expensive "try" at trouble-shooting.

Since a keyboard transmits "codes" to the motherboard,
e.g., left-shift-has-been-pressed, and left-shift-has-been-released,
and the motherboard interprets those codes, it is NOT likely that
the motherboard is misinterpreting the codes, especially given that
the "bad' letters are in a straight line on your keyboard.

Find an external USB keyboard, and plug it in.
If it works correctly in the first 15 minutes, then the problem is NOT the motherboard.

Look into the Bios or System Setup and make sure Plug and Play is enabled. When you turn the system on notice what key it says to hit to get into the Bios or System Setup. Hit that key and check the Plug and Play to be sure it is enabled.

HP Laptop keyboard fails... sporadically

I suspect your problem may be caused by the wireless keyboard, even if you are not using it. You may be using your computer in a "noisy" environment where the wireless transceiver is picking up random signals and corrupting the keyboard interface. Or the wireless keyboard driver could also be at fault.

Can you de-install the wireless keyboard from your system and see if the problem occurs again?

NOTE: I had weird problems with my Microsoft wireless mouse until MS came out with an updated driver for it.
