Question about Canon PowerShot S70 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Yesterday I downloaded successfully, as usual, my pictures from the camera into the computer. I made 7 more pictures last night. Today, I tried to download them, but the computer had a "non recognizable files" message. I restarted the computer (a Mac OSX), but now it wouldn't even detect the camera! I tried to see if my 10 years old pressed a button on the camera by mistake, and, after I press the "format" button in the Menu I lost even the images in the camera! 1. How can I get the computer to detect the camera again? 2. How can I restore my images on the card?

1. Forget about getting the computer to recognize the camera. Do what the pros do...use a card reader instead of the camera and download to a folder you create on the desktop. 2. Sorry, but "format" completely erases the card with no hope of retrieval. yesterday I downloaded successfully, as - typrice_192.jpg

What make and model camera?

Try downloading all your pictures from the card to your computer and then reformatting the card. Alternatively, try another card. What happens then?

Picasa no longer recognizing Nikon Coolpix L5

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Picasa or any other photo cataloging program.

I just got my camera last month. i uploaded my pictures to the computer last night. Today, i tried to take some pictures. my camera would take the picture, however, when i tried to view them it wouldn't...

Sounds odd - working one day then NOT the next day.
When you downloaded the pictures - did you delete the originals from the card ? (card could be full) depending how many pictures you took.
Did the card have a lock button (sliding button on one side) - this could have been activated.
Does the card need re-formatting by the camera - maybe the PC removes the pictures and changes the format on the card.
Can you borrow/try another card from a friend/shop to insert and see what message comes back !!
That's about all I can think of -- hope that helps - Rays

Canon zoombrowser Ex downloading problem

The sd1000 manual says that you will get this error when you have too many pictures on your memory card (aprox 1000). I am not sure how many I had on my 2GB card but it was a lot. I deleted about 50 - 100 pictures and then it started working again and the new pictures downloaded to the computer.

Canon zoombrowser Ex downloading problem

Try updating the Zoombrowser software.

If you have a connection to the camera, go into my computer and get images directly off the camera using scanner and camera wizard, microsoft's default program. This will at least allow you to transfer your images until you can resolve the software problem.

If you have no connection to the camera via your computer, you need to try some other troubleshooting steps to get a connection. I will post those below in the next post.
