Question about Celestron CPC 925 XLT (555 x 235mm) Telescope

1 Answer

I have a CPC 925 (7 years old) that's been in storage for four years. Its been stored at room temperature, covered, on tripod, vertical position facing down. Should I be looking for any potential problems or do anything preventative before firing back up? Thanks, RC

Thanks Ronaldo. Much appreciated. Any thoughts on gears and grease drying out in the CPCs?

There is really nothing to be concerned about. The biggest enemy of electronic device is moisture. As far as failure, electronic device have the highest failure rate when brand new. I know this sound crazy but it is true. Since a lot of failure in electronic circuits is due to poor design, and manufacturing. Electronic components are very hardy things, and can withstand even temperatures that would kill a living thing. One last thing to mention on electronic is dust that has accumulated can ruin electronic circuits on high current sections that require fan to cool it down due to poor ventilation. Mechanical things such as gears and what have you should be ok. Mechanical things have the highest failure rate as time goes by (wear and tear). Since you store it in a climate controlled room the lubrication on the gears should still be ok.

I am pretty sure the type of grease used in them are specially made for electronic device same kind you will find in DVD's and other electronic stuff, they are made to stay there forever.

Storage temperature range

They suggest to store the unit at room temperature (68 F). The lowest in theory is above 32 degrees F. Anything below that will freeze and cause damage.

sometimes storing an AC for long periods of time will allow the coolant that it uses to seep out, leaving you with an AC that seems to work, but won'tr cool any air. If you have a user's manual (or can find one) check to see what type of coolant it uses (if it's freon or something else) and if you can refill it. If you can refill the coolant, that should resolve your problem ... if not, you might be able to take it to a repair shop and have them do it for you. Good luck!

The message refers to a component that is reading out of the normal temperature range so your theory regarding storage could be correct.
