I have an HP Photosmart E317 camera and want to upload pictures from my laptop to the SD memory card - so that I can then use the memory card in my digital photo frame - will this work? If not, how else can i transfer photos onto an SD memory card? Thanks.

The digital photo frame does support the SD card - my question is how to transfer photos from my pc to the SD card as I can't find a way to do it. Do i need to buy an SD card reader?

You question was "Will that work". and "How ELSE can you transfer pictures to SD card". To transfer it, you need an SD card reader. I advice you to buy a Multi-card reader so it can read many types of memory card/sticks.

If your system is new, there is a big chance that it already has a built-in card reader.

If your photo frame supports bluetooth, then you can use it too to transfer your photos.

Hp photosmart e317 digital camera downloads for windows 7 operating systems

You don't need any special software.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Windows Photo Gallery or any other photo cataloging program, such as Picasa.

Where is memory card inserted in E317 camera?

Open the battery door. There's a small slot behind the battery that is for the memory card. The notch end of the memory card should go in first when inserting it. See the image below

Just installed memory card and gives me lockecke camer msg and cannot take any pictures

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

Need memory card for the hp photosmart e317 /w 5.0 megopixels

The E317 uses MMC or SD cards. MMC cards are getting hard to find, but SD cards should be available at just about any department, electronics, or office-supply store. Make sure you get an SD card, 2GB and smaller, and not the larger SDHC cards.
