If it works with the old cartridge, the new cartridge you bought may be faulty.

Can you remove the battery from an hp F4480 printer to make it ignore incompatible cartridge message

Unfortunately, this does not work.

With respect to the HP 60 cartridge error message ("Incompatible Print Cartridges") and inability to print with your HP Deskjet F4480 printer, this type of error is normally associated to an electrical connection issue between the printer and the cartridge, or more likely, an internal micro-electronic failure inside the cartridge itself (which is typical of the 'incompatible error' alert). These same failures can (and randomly do) occur with brand new ink cartridges.* To help identify the root cause, please run the 'Tap 41' cartridge's electrical / diagnostic tests below (refer to A. and B), this will identify which ink cartridge is causing the issue:

Please first verify the age of the ink cartridge(s)....look at imprinted date on front of ink cartridge. If this 'warranty expiration date' has expired, then potential internal electrical cartridge failures can occur due to internal corrosion, etc.

NOTE: Unfortunately, alignment pages and internal self test prints will usually print Ok even if the cartridge is internally electrically damaged. Do not use these test pages as a proxy for determining whether a cartridge is good or bad, only the 'Tap 41/43' diagnostic test report can yield this information.

As a temporary workaround, or if you are unable to determine which cartridge is causing the issue, remove one of the ink cartridges from the printer....this might place the printer into the 'single cartridge printer mode'....print jobs may then be executed from the computer (only):

An internal electrical failure of a cartridge can be confirmed by performing the following corrective/diagnostic steps:

A.Ensure BOTH carriage/flex cables and BOTH ink cartridge contacts are thoroughly clean before proceeding: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1519

B.Validate the cartridge's electrical health by running the 'Tap 41' diagnostics test. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TAP 41 video procedure at the following link on how to activate and read the service test:

http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=440 (HP 60 - Deskjet F2400/F4400/F4500 models)
1.While holding the Power button, press Cancel (X) button 4 times, then press the Color Copy button once.
    2.Release the Power button.
3.The 'Tap 41' diagnostic test print should print.

--- Providing the color cartridge is partially functioning the Tap 41 diagnostic test print will be printed (this is a forced service print test which is mainly used for the evaluation of ink cartridge electrical health). A good HP 60/60XL color cartridge should display 1248 good nozzles, while a good HP 60/60XL black ink cartridge should show 336 good nozzles. If the results yield anything different then the ink cartridge is likely damaged and will need to be replaced. Refer to 2nd video on how to read the printout.
        http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=440 (HP 60 - Deskjet F2400/F4400/F4500 models)
        http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=444 (HP 60 - Deskjet F4200 model)

---- If the printer attempts to print the diagnostic test pattern (1 page) then the printer is generally considered operational and functional, if nothing is printed, but the printer attempts to print the pattern, then the tri-color ink cartridge is either empty, clogged or severely electrically damaged (black ink cartridge is not used). You can remove the tri-color cartridge, reactivate the tap 41 test and the printer will print the diagnostic test print in black ink.

NOTE: To our team's knowledge there is no 'cartridge error bypass' method available for the HP Deskjet printer model. The cartridge will mostly likely need to be replaced with a new one.

Hp 4480 how do you unpause it

The HP F4480 likely has a malfunctioning ink cartridge which is causing the printer hang (i.e. internal micro-electronics damage inside the HP 60 color or black ink cartridge). You can verify the electrical condition of both HP 60 ink cartridges by activating the Tap 41 diagnostic test report (see video here for complete instructions):

http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=440 (HP 60 - Deskjet F2400/F4400/F4500 models)
1.While holding the Power button, press Cancel (X) button 4 times, then press the Color Copy button once.

Can I print on my hp 6122 deskjet with only a black ink cartridge? I have no color ink.

Yes, all HP Deskjet printer models feature a 'single cartridge print mode'. Just remove the cartridge you don't wish to print with; the printer will automatically revert into either greyscale printing (if color cartridge remains installed) or black only printing (if the black cartridge remains installed). However, if the installed ink cartridge is electrically damaged/defective the printer will display an alert message; it will need to be replaced with a new cartridge.

I Have an HP Deskjet all-in-one F 4480 and I have replaced the black ink twice with a new one and it still won;t print. How do I reset it? Thank you

there is no any resetting in F4480 printer. if you have replaced the black one, the colour one may have problem. in this printer, to run, both cartridges must be in good condition.

I have a f4480 hp printer. Used it about 3 times in last 6 mos. It was not printing with the black ink so I just bought #74 & #75 ink from Staples. Now the yellow light on the front of the printer...

If the ink cartridge in the printer is 6 months old, it maybe dried out and would need to be replaced with a new cartridge. When buying new cartridges from places like Walmart, Target etc. check the dates on the packages before buying. Sometimes the cartridges will set in the store too long and dry out.

I have a f4480 hp deskjet. How do you reset settings when you refill the ink (black) cartridge? Because even after injecting the ink, I still get the exclamation mark and orange light. And when even...

Some Hp printers, like Epson, require the cartridge to be reset. There is a chip on the cartridge that needs resetting.
This might work;
Place the HP 60 cartridge on a covered surface so that the metal contacts on the cartridge are facing you. Put tape over the top metal contact in the second column from the left-hand side, making sure the other contacts do not get covered. Put the HP 60 cartridge back into the HP printer. Print a test page when prompted. Take the cartridge out of the printer. Leave the tape on the contact that is already covered and also cover the top contact in the column at the far right, making sure no other contact gets covered in the process. Return the cartridge to the printer again. Print a test page. Remove the cartridge from the printer again, remove the tape from the metal contacts, and return the cartridge to the printer. Print the test page and the printer should read the cartridge as full.

How do i bypass the ink cartridge error on the hp Deskjet F4480? It is saying ink cartridge not compatible but it is a genuine cartridge. And E is displayed on the screen and the light is flashing. How can...

These types of severe cartridge errors (i.e. "refer to documentation" / "incompatible cartridges", etc.) typically indicate the internal micro-electronics of the HP #60-61 cartridge are electrically damaged - now, these errors can be bypassed on select printer models (temporarily). The cartridge's electrical wire runs at rear and lower side of the ink cartridge, are very delicate and are somewhat susceptible to ink attack over time, which can lead to premature failures. In addition, the older the cartridge the higher the chance of an internal electrical failure due to prolonged ink exposure and subsequent circuit corrosion. I suggest you always run a 'Tap 41' diagnostic test to check cartridges electrical health (this is a forced test); you may also bypass the error (temporarily) on C4600-C4700 models which use HP 60 cartridges. Ink cartridge light keeps blinking

you need to print only in black if that is all the ink you have, and also you need to remove the color cartridge as it still registers in the printer as able to be used, although it is empty or near so. Did you remove the tape over the print head fron the new ink cartridge? Do a print head alignment, or use the toolbox icon to tell the printer that you just replaced the cartridge. Some HP models chip the ink cartridges so even a refill wont register as a full tank and the printer wont print. chip needs to be reset (difficult) or just replaced with a new cartridge.
