Question about GE Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

Advantium oven displays "F3" and beeps continuously. It does not respond to clear or any other commands.

Thanks for your response. Our Advantium Oven doesn't quite fit the mold of a standard microwave. We called GE for service and it will probably take them a total of 3 weeks to get it working.

F3 on a GE / Hotpoint microwave means you have a shorted keypad.

If it's less than one year old, it should be fully covered under warranty. I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free. GE Customer Service is here.

If it is out of warranty, read on...

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

If you would like to have us do this for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you need more help.

Direct spraying of cleaners on the keypad and steam from the cooktop can damage the controls.

Always spray non-ammonia cleaner on a soft cloth (not a paper towel which can scratch) and gently wipe the keypad.

Always use the vent fan when cooking on the stove top to keep steam and grease out.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

I would say the long delay would be due to your local servicer's existing service call schedule.

Once they come out and diagnose the problem, they'll probably have to order parts. If you're lucky, they'll have the part in stock and will think to bring it with them.

I'm confident this will be a FixYa!

Ge advantium touchpad beeps, with code F3.

That normally means there is a damaged contact on the control panel, so a replacement will be required.

Constant beeping

You have a shorted membrane keypad.

In some cases, just the membrane can be replaced. This is harder but cheaper. In some models, you have to replace the plastic frame, which comes with a new keypad. This costs more, but it a snap.

But it all depends on the model number.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

Giving -F3- display and beeping 3 times, does not respond

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, you have a shorted / failed membrane keypad.

Until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you would like to have us do this repair for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your model number) for more information & help.

Advantium oven F3

F3 means a shorted keypad. Is it possible that some spray cleaner got onto or into the controls?

I always recommend that instead users spray cleaner on a soft cloth then wipe the control panel.

Also, I always recommend non-ammonia cleaners since ammonia can crack and damage plastic.

Otherwise, the spray can get into the controls and lock it up or make it act odd.

If it does not dry out over time, it may need to be manually dried or blown out.

Othwrwise, the keypad may be damaged or worn out, or control unit may be damaged.

Some people replace them or have us do it.
