Water and electronics do not mix.
Turn off your monitot and let it dry out for several days and then check to see if the monitor still works properly.
If not then you need a new monitor.

Can I clean my ViewSonic LCD Monitor (VE510b) with water (using cloth)? Please tell me a procedure how can I clean my ViewSonic LCD Monitor screen.

To clean the monitor first turn it off then use something like a microfiber cloth or something that is not abrasive to clean the surface. Don't press down excessively this can cause damage to the monitor. If that does'nt get all the fingerprints and such off a solution of distilled water with a little
white vinegar will do fine just use it lightly and don't drown the monitor. Make sure to use just enough solution to lightly dampen the monitor and not so much as to run down the monitor and
risk getting inside where the circuits are.

Horizontal lines in the middle of the screen .....the rest is black

You have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitorswill blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts calledcapacitors overheating in the confined space of he monitor. If you aregood at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix he problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htmYou can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the badparts, replace any that look like the pictues and your monitor shouldwork fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct +and - connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the newone the same way. You may be able to get the repalcement capacitors atyour local Radio Shack, if not there are several sites and the internetyou can order from. If you don't want to try the repair yourself weoffer a repair service for $35 plus shipping. I hope this helps, if soplease rate my solution.

There is a 4 inch wide back vertical strup down the diplay screen

It is probably be a faulty LCD crystal, or a bad internal connection where the electronics meet the LCD. I would think it could happen if the monitor is jarred or dropped, I guess it could occur also if the monitor was brought in from the cold weather and condensation occurred inside?

Unless you have access to a trained LCD technician, your only option is return the monitor for exchange or repair, or buy a new one.

Screen goes black and power light goes out after a few minutes

it would seem that one of the internal components has failed / overheated Dont open the rear of the monitor !

if pos drop it into your nearest pc repair shop and have is serviced it may just need cleaned to free it from dust build up
on the inner parts this may be causing the unit to over heat
