Question about PfaFF Sewing Machines

1 Answer

I have a vintage PFAFF 30 sewing machine. I was sewing and the needle suddenly stuck down and wouldn't come up even when I turned the wheel. I tried everything i could think of to fix it. But I don't have the manual and don't know the technical lingo. Is there anyway to fix it myself?

Pfaff select 1540 bobbin thread jam

if there is a thread in the hook area try taking a pair of needle nose
pliers to try & get the thread out, if that doesn't work then you might
think about taking the machine to a sewing machine shop to have the
machine checked since the needle will not go up & down & handwheel
won't move

I've just bought a Pfaff 1471 and it has "locked-up"... the needle won't go up and down and the hand-wheel won't move. Help please! :)

Do you have a bunch of material and thread stuck in the feed dog? Sounds like. This will sometimes happen. I'm afraid the only thing you can do is carefully work with a seam ripper or small scissors to get it all out. Be careful working. You will damage this part of your fabric, but you can take the seam allowance in a small bit. You will probably have to remove fabric & thread from underneath, through the bobbin area, too.

Once you have all of this cleared, the needle and wheel will turn. I suggest you try and take the needle out of the shaft and try pulling it out of the fabric before you start your work, too. That way, you won't risk breaking it and have a piece fly off at you.

It's frustrating and will probably make you curse at the machine-it's happened to everyone who sews at one time or another, and will happen again, I'm afraid.

My Pfaff 1211 was working and all of a sudden it

Your hook where your bobbin case goes in are most likele jammed with cotton. give it some oil and turn your handwheel backwards gently. Look if you see any cotton jammed and remove it

Needle stuck in the material while sewing a straight stitch.

See if you can release the bobbin from the case.

When I turn on my PFAFF 1222 it wont sew

It may be in bobbin filling mode. Can you turn the inner circular on the hand crank. If you can click it into position, this should engage the needle mechanism.
