I have a Craftsman model 917.273482 and the deck is riding on the left wheels when it is in the fully lifted position. What did I break in the suspension of the left side I can't see anything wrong.

I have the same mower and had that problem last year. There two lifting links (part #11 and #12 of page 45 of the owners manual) that pick up the deck when you move the lift handle. I found one of these links broken (at the place where it was bent to form the curve into the deck). Bought both a left and a right side, figuring the other will fail soon. It did, about a month later. Sears will ship the part promptly, and it is not expensive.

I have a sears craftsman rider..model #917.527643, I cannot lower the mower deck to the ground. Any suggestions on how I may fix this problem?

I could not look up by model number. You have the right number of digits, but the sears craftsman parts site would not recognize it. So I am guessing that you have a knob that the operator can reach under the steering wheel and lower and a little left. If you have one of these knobs, it is a deck lower limiter. It is easy to turn if the deck is fully up. If the deck is lowered to bottom and the deck does not go to bottom and you turn this knob you will feel significant resistance. This resistance is caused by the weight of the deck on the limiter. With the deck fully up, turn this knob to fully lower the limiter and then lower the deck. Should go to ground or just a hair higher.

If any questions, please send reply and I will get back to you.

If you found this really helpful, please rate 4 thumbs up.

The belt that comes from the engine to mower deck keeps breaking. I've owned the mower for years and I have to buy atleast 12 belts per year. The problen is really bad now. A belt per cutting. I've...

I own a Craftsman rider, DTY 4000, 25 HP Kohler, 48" cut, 137 Hrs. It eats a belt about every mowing or two. Did all the stuff you did. Good luck from Sears. Had cousin who is owns a lawn & garden repair business look at it today. Says the prob. is this - The drive belt pulley (elec clutch) has too a narrow "V" and the angle of wear between it and the deck when the deck is in the lowered (mowing) position is too severe. If you notice with the deck in the fully raised position the pulleys line up perfectly. Then drop your deck and see how tightly bent the belt is downward and it makes sense as to why(my) belt would first roll over then break in a few minutes. The elec clutch pulley is sold as one unit PT No. 179334 $250.00, but I'm sure it would come with the same narrow V pulley. Waiting for word from my cousin. My last Sears Mower. Cannot even sell it in good faith.

Problem for Craftsman 20 hp 42 in. Deck Lawn Tractor - ca model wheel alignment: both wheels point outwards

the bar connecting the wheels is bent. this is easy to change. just pull the pins out on both sides and lift the rod out. you can straighten it in a vise or order a new one through sears. cost about $12. our local repair shop keeps them on hand.

I have a 25 horse Craftsman. Link lift that raises the deck keep breaking

the deck is connected to the tractor in three spots. The link that breaks repeatedly does so because the opposing link is frozen up. Replace both links and you will be back in operation.

Lift links

I imagine the lift links to be a piece of steel with a couple holes in them. Ask a local welding service to make your lift links. Typically you will not find part numbers for a part so eazily reproduced.
