That is not what I needed. I have the blown up diagram but it does not tell how to dismantle the grill to get at the old burners to replace them. Either tell me how to dismanatle and replace with the new burners in detail or refund me my money.

  • William Scot Ellis May 30, 2011

The video shows a burner that is a straight burner not a U type burner that does not have a screw attachment at the back of the burner like the video shows. The burners only attachments are hide at the front of the grill. It looks like I would have to take the whole front off to get at it and that does not seem right. Please see the type of unit I am useing to get the right recommendations.

  • William Scot Ellis Jun 02, 2011

As I have stated before this is a U shaped burner that has a pan above the drip pan that makes the access to the wingnuts at the top of the U. How do you get the pan out of the way so I can install the burners.

  • William Scot Ellis Jun 02, 2011

The video that I was sent to is the wrong grill. I have U shaped burners that attach to the back with a wing nut. The problem is how do you get to the wing nut when there is a fixed drip plate up against the wing nuts. This is not the pull out drip plate/

  • William Scot Ellis Jun 02, 2011

This is the wrong grill diagram. The grill I have has U shaped burners . Please read the other comments that I have sent.

  • William Scot Ellis Jun 03, 2011

You keep giving me the wrong grill diagrams and the grill I have has U type burners that do not detach as the straight burners plus there is a grease directional plat in the way of getting to the wing nuts that I need to get off.

  • Disconnect the gas supply from the grill, either by unscrewing the regulator from the valve on a propane tank, or shutting off the gas line at the cutoff valve, typically on the pipe connecting to the grill.

  • 2

Raise the grill lid, remove the cooking grates and take out the lava rocks or ceramic bricks. Remove the grate over the old burner.

  • 3

Loosen the burner by turning the locking nut counterclockwise with pliers underneath the grill in the center. Apply spray lubricant if necessary to free the lock nut from the bolt. Some of these models mount differently but the fact is you have to either remove the screws or bolts connecting them to the grill.

  • 4

Pull up on the burner from inside the grill and tilt toward the front to remove the burner and tube assembly

  • 5

Insert the two tubes on the new burner into the holes in the bottom of the grill and guide the burner into position, checking underneath the grill to fit the burner tubes into the venturi tubes attached to the back of the control panel. The grill tubes fit loosely inside the larger venturi tubes, which have small, round screens on the sides. The locking bolt underneath the new burner goes into the hole in the bottom of the grill.

  • 6

Secure the locking nut to the bolt on the underside of the grill and tighten with the pliers.

  • 7

Replace the grill grate over the burner, add lava rocks or ceramic briquettes and replace the cooking grates.

  • 8

Reattach the gas regulator to the grill valve if using a propane tank, or switch on the gas supply at the shutoff valve.

Some models also have burner shields that lay over the burners to catch grease and give off a smoke flavor, these simply lay in a groove above the burners so they can be removed and peplaced very easily.

I also did not see the other commenst and descriptions provided till right now, they don't show up tillo I answer your question. The wing nut is in the rear of the burners on these. I will look in the reference books for more specific info to give you.

When I look at this exploded vies all I see in the flame tamers that lay over the burners and a pull out tray that removes from the front to empty the grease and such. It may be screwd in from the front under the burner knobs. All these grills are different and every year they change models and the way they are buitlt. To put it simply there has to be either screws or bolts that hold any pans above the burners. Some models the screws are accessed from the out side of the grill.

These are not that hard no matter what shape the burners are, any of the ones I have worked on the burners all remove basically the same, you might have to twist yours up ward before sliding off the gas supply but they do come off. Any pan or diverter above the burners eiher has bolts or screws that hold them or yours is made with a permenant shelf and I have never seen one like that. When I look up the grill that you gave us the numbers on, there is no manual or information on that grill. I looked at the esploded view of on that came up on your grill and followed the instructions on assembly and went backwards and all it says is to install the covers over the burners and it also show a tray with a handle on it similar to the handle on the grill cover but smaller, over the burner control knobs.
like I said all these are made different depending on what store you bought it from, they usually are made to the stores specks

Let me first say that if this information doesn't help you, do not accept the answer and you won't have to pay for my assistance.
Secondly, I don't have that grill, but I removed and replaced burners on two different grills in the past few days.
In most cases the burners run from front to back. Look in back to see if the burners go through the back sheet metal. The burners on my newest grill are attached to the back with 2 screws with nuts and washers on each. One does not have to disassemble anything to remove/replace these burners. Simply remove screws/nuts/washers, pull the burner out the back, install the new burner align around gas orifice and reinstall the screws, noting any alignment arrows or instructions such as UP.
On my other grill, the grates, heat distribution covers, any briquets must be removed to see the retaining screws. The grill was so rusted that I couldn't even replace these burners.
Before dismantling anything, open the doors below, remove any drip trays that come out easily and try to see what you are trying to get to in order to remove the old burners.
Looking at the mounting arrangement on the new burners is also helpful.
I hope this helps, let me know hou you do.

That same model number has several different burners. One is a straight burner (three each); a couple are loop types and several have a flat surface with gas outlets.

I have a Viking Grill model VGBQ530 with cast iron burners that need replacement. I cannot find the exact model no. with these replacement burners however it appears that Viking now have a replacement made...

That is correct. Viking no longer supports the Cast Iron Burners. There is an aftermarket Burner VIKU1 that comes with mounting brackets to convert older Viking Grills that used a Cast Iron Burner to be able to switch to the stainless steel burner. The large bracket attaches to the center tube and has two screw holes and screws for mounting to the rear of the housing. The two smaller brackets mount to the two holes at the rear wall of the housing and create a ledge for the end of the two tubes to rest on.
