Question about Electric Drills

1 Answer

The local (very reliable) drill repair shop said my Westcraft 549 drill had a broken wire in the winding, and they did not know anyone who could re-wind the core. It's the first drill I ever used, 50+ years ago, and I'd like to see it working again. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I would check with local starter rebuild shops. It is basically the same concept.

I have a 2003 Ford Ranger 3.0 and I have an exhaust manifold bolt that has broken off inside the manifold, and the evaporator coil, and other AC parts are in the way .what options do i have on this

With the exhaust manifold off. If there is some of the bolt sticking out. You'll need a torch to heat the head up, red hot around the bolt. Also a pair of needle nose vise grips to grab it with and turn it out. You'll have to heat it several times to get out. No bolt showing, you best bet it to pull the head. Drill the bolt and extract it.

Makita 451 stopped working NO smoke but liights still work?

Things I've run across in my shop to check for:
1. Is power getting out of the switch to the motor. It is possible for the part that powers the light to work and not the part that goes to the motor
2. Is the armature jambed by something that doesn't belong in there so it can't turn.
3. Is the armature burned up. Check the wires for burn spots, broken wires or discoloration of the windings, they should be the color of a new penny.

find your local electric motor repair/rewinding shop and take the old motor there
ask what you could get to replace it
consider that the new motor will probably be better if it is a bigger hp unit as grass ( especially wet grass) is hard to cut and B&D would only install a motor that only just does the job

to my knowledge you have to send it to a hilti service center. you can't buy parts nor can a local shop buy parts for them. you may just have a loose wire or the switch you move to change direction may have come loose inside.

Can the battery compartment be repaired? the metal section at one end of the compartment has come off and has been lost.only one end of the battery is now touching element so their is no power getting...

Sometimes this can be repaired by trying to solder a piece of wire onto the broken end & making sure it is wide enough to make battery contact. It will depend on how much of the broken piece remians so that you can get a good solder connection. Try & enquire at a local repair shop or computer shop to see if they have any old or non-working mice that are being discarded & then just use the battery terminal from there, it will be more reliable longterm.

10-32x1 Left Hand Chuck Screw for Milwaukee Magnum Holeshooter

any reversible drill will have the lh screw in the chuck
cruise the garage sales, dump shops etc and get a dead drill and remove the screw
could be phillips head or hex head but that will not matter
if you have access to a quality bolt retailer ( not a hardware shop) they will have the screw
go to an appliance repair shop that repairs drills as they may have a dead drill with the chuck still attached

Power cord on DeWalt electric drill

dbx is a family of noise reduction systems developed by the company of the same name. The most common implementations are dbx Type I and dbx Type II for analog tape recording and, less commonly, vinyl LPs. A separate implementation, known as dbx-TV, is part of the MTS system used to provide stereo sound to North American and certain other TV systems. The company – dbx, Inc. – was also involved with Dynamic Noise Reduction (DNR) systems.

My conclusion is that your answer was right on.... good work.
