I have a 2000 Dodge Durango 5.2L. It starts fine, but it stalls unless my foot is on the gas. When it reaches idle speed it cuts off. I can even get it into gear if I do it while my foot is on the gas, but as the truck decelerates, it cuts off. What am dealing with here?

sounds like you may have a bad head gasket now. i would check the compession and go from there. let us know how the compression is.

2000 Durango,No code thats okay we have the symptom that all we need. Stall when hot.So it stall at idle or if you decelerate then it also stalls.and it start right up. The 2000 Durango is equipt with a ISC (idle speed control motor) and this is mounted on the throttle body.This maintains a target idle speed.The ISC also uses a desired MAP for deceleration.Your solution is a throttle body cleaning,or a ISC (idle speed control) motor.This is the only thing that can cause what is described

Clean the mass air flow sensor, and check oxygen sensors, most common cause.

This could be allot of things like clogged intake manifold or a bad fuel pressure regulator or EGR valve to even a dirty intake air filter or plugged catalytic converter that's just to name a few

Here is the common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

i know this may sound stupid but if your battery is old or a little weak on this vehicle the idle air control solenoid will act speradicley hunting for were it should be and the vehicle will stall.replace battery

you could try to clean the mass air flow sensor

Try cleaning or replacing idle speed motor.
