Morrowind - Error message on startup

When trying to run Morrwind: The Elder Scrolls i get this error message:

"music error: cannot play music file. data files/music/special/Morrowind title mp3"

Bethesda's site advises;

"This error will generally happen when using an older version of the software for the sound card. To correct the problem, please contact the system or sound card manufacturer to obtain the latest sound card software. This software is usually available for free download on the manufacturer's website. This problem can also occur in certain systems if the file association for MP3 files in the operating system has been changed from the default setting of Windows Media Player to a 3rd-party application such as WinAmp, Realplayer, etc."

However, i have confirmed that the mp3 file association is with WMP, and i have attempted downloading new drivers for the soundcard (a Creative Sound Blaster 4.1 Digital) which didn't work, nor does uninstalling and reinstalling the original drivers. I cannot for the life of me work out where i've gone wrong. Help!!!!!!!!!!

Product key

This problem exists for many gamers, many of the gamers who bought legitimate copy of the game are suffering from this issue.

I have wrote an article on how to play the whole single-player campaign even without a product key. Sadly multiplayer still needs a product key.

Its not an easy way to play the game, but still atleast you will be able complete the whole single-player campaign. Follow the link below to read the article.

this is a 15 year old game... so why are you using that?
it dont support w7 back then,
why not pick out a w7 and new game for best play.

All of the words in the game are replaced by purple rectangles.

Make sure u have the latest Video Drivers installed and make sure u have an appropriate Anti Aliasing settings.. What u describe is a Video Card error.. it s either the driver or the hardware of the Card to blame.

Help! Morrowind Executable

If you're running vista or 7, you need to tweak your admin settings. It's limiting your admin powers and not letting you delete the previous file and save the new one.
