Question about Dryers

1 Answer

My kenmore series 80 gas dryer, mod # 110 72842101 will run but will not heat. It was fine last weekend and is not fine now. Is there a pilot light on this thing that may have gone out?

oh Kevin, I think this is too scary for me. I cleaned the vent, and checked it outside the house as well - still no heat. I guess I will call for repair. thanks for trying.

Kevin - the kenmore again, why would a thermostat go out? there was no time of sort of bad running, no suspicious smells, no indication that anything was going wrong until it did. just asking.

i guess, in that it defined a next step in solving the problem - calling a repair person. I kind of knew I was out of my depth anyway. thanks!

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

If you have already tried cleaning the vent then the problem is with the Thermostat. When the thermostat goes bad it cannot be reset and replacing it is recommended repair. It is located on the blower wheel housing inside the rear panel to the exhaust duct. You can test it for continuity before replacing, if thermostat reads continuity then please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Kenmore 80 series gas dryer- 110 72842100 Dryer runs but the heat is not working? Do not hear gas igniting to create the heat, does this dryer have a pilot that went out?

Their is a flame sensor, an ignitor, and a pair of coils all wired together into one assembly.
Here is the heat control and duct fuse: themobilian_2068.jpg
Check that fuse next to that control. If it is open the dryer gas assembly won't get any power.

Kenmore 80 series dryer, no heat. blower works

Check to see if the glow bar is coming on first. If it isn't, it is probably the thermal fuse/ cutoff. It is a small white plastic piece on near the motor housing.

If it is coming on but not lighting the flame, then you probably need gas coils. They are the two cylinder shape black and white objects attached to the gas valve.

Kenmore 70 Series Dryer not heating and not cutting off

I had an identical problem to yours this weekend with my Kenmore dryer. There were 2 problems.

1. Timer was broken. Does not advance to "OFF" position on timed dry, however it still works for auto-dry.

2. Thermal fuse was blown. Upon replacing, dryer heated up normally.

I believe when the timer broke, the dryer had kept running and blew the thermal fuse. On Sears' website, thermal fuse is $5.30, timer is roughly $80.

How to light the pilot?

If this is an electric dryer, it doesn't have a pilot either. If this is a gas dryer it will have an electric pilot. but then if it were a gas dryer, it would have a removable lower front panel for servicing the burner. So you must have an electric dryer. if the dryer runs but does not heat, the electric element is most likely at fault. If you really were looking for a pilot light on an electric dryer, I must recommend that you call a reputable appliance service regarding repairs so as to not jeopardize your safety.
