Take the top of your VCR off keeping mind of where the screws came from, by the front of the tape there will be a gear wheel called the elevator wheel. After you have carefully unlooped the tape from the head, turn the elevator wheel, and you will be able to remove the tape then. Simply spool the tape back up and replace the cover.

Powers on and off right away

Other than a tech looking it over, look inside at the main and power board for green led lights on the board, they are used to indicate the voltages are there or not, a clue to what may be happening.

The other known issue is the power relay/s this set may have up to 3 and they are known to stick open or closed If the power light does not go out when the set is turned off one relay is stuck--simple test in any case is a gentle tape with the handle of a screwdriver on the relay/s.

The mechanism on VCR are complicated. You can open it (make sure its not plugged in). Try to rotate the motor manually that is responsible for the loading mechanism. So that you can eject the tape. Or if you want you can just take out the whole VCR mechanism so that your TV will not shut off. if you are succesfull in ejecting the tape manually and also pay close attention to the mechanism. Do not put another tape in there unles you find out what is causing the mechanical prblem.

I have a Mitsubishi HS-M58V(B) VHS recorder with a tape stuck inside. I'm not fused about the tape but would like some advise on removing it as the kids still have many tapes they watch from time to...

Many of the older Mitsubishi machines suffered from the nylon tracks which are set into the metal becoming brittle and cracking with age there is not a lot that can be done with this problem and you may as well buy a new machine.another cause can be the mode switch becoming dirty and needs cleaning this is a rotary multi contact switch located under the mechanical deck.Hope this may be of help but the outcome is not good in any way.

Tape is stuck in the vcr and when you turn on the power it turns the tape about 10 seconds and then shuts off the power.

if the tape has snagged inside, the only way to get it out is to take the top of the vcr off and manually remove it. very simple procedure. only use your fingers and not anything sharp. have you tried rewinding the tape (from STOP mode) sometimes tapes can end up being wound very tight which would have the same effect. if you can rewind do so, then fast forward until tape stops, repeat this a few times this should loosen the tape.

Am unable to get tape in VCR/combo

sir,
If you unplugged it with a tape inside that procedure has probably messed up the internal cpu or integrated circuit that controls the functions of the set.

So, it must be reset and restored to its factory settings. To do this merely unplug the power cord and leave it unplugged for at least 4 hours. It takes this long to totally discharge all the memory cells inside the unit. Then power it up again and check it out.

After the reset above if it still does not eject the tape there may be a mechanical problem. For this there are all sorts of things you can try. I refer you to www.fixer.com which has a database of things you can do to get a stuck tape out and get the tape mechanism working again.

From this site, for example, you will find a section on Sylvania vcrs that has suggestions on removing a tape. You can find it at:

Thank You

I have a Samsung 13" TV,combo VHS player that is stuck on (unless unplugged). I am unable to change channels, change volume, or play a tape. I think the buttons are stuck. Can you help?

It sounds like you are right . the button for power my be the one that is giving you trouble .. remove the cover and you will see plastic clips that hold the face plate on.. top and bottom. lift the clips and remove the face plate. make sure nothing is on the contact switch's and while holding the tape door open replace the faceplate, making sure to snap all the clips in place. If it is not on all the way it could hold down on one of the switches.
