Hi cyrusw,

Direct drive means that the agitator is driven by its own motor, which means there are no belts to change.
The motor could have one of two problems why it doesn't run.
The first is easy. There is an agitator overload sensor that turns off the agitator's motor should there be too much stuff stuck in the agitator making it difficult to turn. The solution would be to clean it and then push the reset button that is on top of the base on the left side as you're facing the cleaner.
The second possiblity is that something might be wrong with the agitator motor itself. In this case it would need servicing.
Please reply back if you need an owner's manual.

I hope this helps. If it does, I'd appreciate a 4 thumbs up. Keeps me working... Thanks,

Handie Andie

Hi

You can check the motor for 120VAC, if that is fine then it means the motor coupler should be replaced. Please check this video:

Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

This is posted under vacuum cleaner. Just making sure because there have been some sorting issues this week. There is likely a broken belt to the agitator. Replacements take about an hour and cost $5 to $10.

If the vacuum cleaner motor does not run the motor itself might be burned out. Check the power switch first to be sure the motor can get power. Then, be sure the motor shaft can turn freely, that nothing is obstructing it. If the motor can turn freely and is getting power but still won't run it will need to be replaced
If the vacuum cleaner motor doesn't run the on - off switch might be turned off or defective. Test the switch with an Ohm meter or continuity checker.

Air filter:
If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up dirt and has no suction the air filter might be clogged. Remove the filter and either clean or replace it as needed.
Exhaust Filter If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the exhaust filter might be clogged. Remove and clean the filter, replace it if its torn or damaged.

Vacuum Hose If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the vacuum hose might be clogged. Remove the hose from the vacuum cleaner, stretch it out straight, shine a bright flashlight in one end and try to see light through it. If no light can be seen, use something to run through the hose and free up the obstruction.
Vacuum Bag If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the vacuum bag might be full. Clean or replace the bag as recommended by the manufacturer.

Dust Cup AssemblyIf the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the dust cup assembly might not be installed tightly, or it might be cracked or broken. The dust cup must seal tightly in order to produce the right amount of suction. If it is cracked or broken, replace it. Most glues and adhesives will not successfully seal the crack.
Blower Wheel If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and there is no suction, the blower wheel might be jammed or broken. Check the blower wheel to be certain it turns freely. If it doesn't, check to see if there is anything rubbing against it. If not, but it's hard to turn, the motor is most likely the problem.

Shark SV736R motorized brush won't rotate

The 2 metal pins of the motorized brush are not in contact with the vacuum cleaner. or the Motorized brush is clogged up. You have mentioned that it is cleaned, but still give a thorough inspection. For the metal pins, firmly insert the motorized brush into the air-intake nozzle. This will connect the motorized nozzle to the unit power supply.

Motor runs, brush won't turn, burning rubber smell

Easy to fix. The burning rubber smell is hair in the roller against the belt! Congrats, you have a healthy vacuum, you are lucky! Unplug the vacuum, remove the screws that cover the belt and roller brush. If you are nervous, take pictures with a cell phone or digital camera as you go for re-assembly. ok, pull the long roller out of it's slot and out of the vacuum. cut all hair off the roller and carefully move the belt from side to side to do the same. If the belt slips off, it slips back on easily. If the area is too tight for fingers guide it back on with any long thin wooden object. You can squeeze the belt to narrow it and slide it back over the thin metal rod that spins it from the motor. Slide the roller through the belt and back into it's slots. If it won't slide back on, turn it a quarter turn. Repeat till it does slide back into place. Put the face plate back on-tighten screws, flip it over, plug itr in and it should work!

Your battery is losing voltage too quick. It has probably developed a 'memory'. Dyson claims that their handheld has the best suction out of all the handhelds out there. In order to maintain that claim the circuit board will shut off power to the motor when the voltage drops below adequate charge for full suction.
We need someone who can teach us to bypass that part of the circuit so it won't cut power to the motor or you need to get a new battery.
Shorting the battery like an Aircraft battery then re-charging won't fix it.

Motor on our kenmore progressive agitator is not

Look for a reset button on the motor and press it in. If it clicks, then it was tripped. An excessive load on the motor can make the reset trip. Try turning the motor shaft to make sure that it is not bound up. Run the machine empty for a short time to see if it works. Good luck!
