Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

Recorder usually does not recognize a blank CD when it is inserted. It takes quite a few tries to get it to work. Teac/Tascam says the disc drive has been discontinued, and the only way to fix the problem is to send it in for a $250 repair.

In the future, please provide model numbers. Your unit is failing and should be replaced, as there is no fix anyone can give you here. It will be far more cost efficient to replace it than to have it repaired.

My teac recorder model # cd-rw890 keeps flashing "reading" and will not let me operate the cd drive

How long have you had you CD recorder?
How many CDs have you burned on it?
The reason for asking is, it sounds like the laser has
failed or is failing to the point of not recognizing the
presence of a disc in the tray. Does it do this with any
disc you put in the tray. Blanks & pre recorded CDs?
A minimum amount of light must bounce back from the
surface of the disc or the unit thinks the tray is empty.
If the laser has become very weak (or died) the player
doen't know any better and thinks "no disc".
The "reading" message just indicates it hasn't passed
the stage where it has detected a disc, yet.
The first step is to run a laser cleaning disc in the player
on the off-chance the lens is dusty and that's the problem.
If you don't have one (you should) they're cheap enough
and available everywhere. If cleaning doesn't help, you
will be looking for a new laser assembly for your unit.
Be careful how much you pay for one. New 890s can be
had from Full Compass for under $200.00 and would be
a smarter move than repairing a tired one!

How do i load a song from a cd onto tascam 2488 mkII?

Hello,
Although I was a factory authorized service center for Teac and Tascam, this is a much later product than I'm familiar with; no problem however.
If you have your owner's manual, the procedure will be listed there. If you no longer have the manual, just Google Teac, in Montebello, CA. I'm quite sure it will be our their website.

I have a Teac D250 CD recorder it used to use TDK XA80 CD-R discs these are off the market and no other disc seems to work . It displays D-Unclock when I try . Is there a code to unlock this so that I can...

You have to look for input selection and make sure whatever way your recording from is connected. If you doing digital to digital, make sure the optical line is connected and the other is powered on. if it's analog or input or other also the same. I think it needs to recognize the other device. This is info from my teac rw d200. I love this and also use these disc's and maybe they would work on yours. The CD's MUST be made for Audio Burners and I recommend these two kinds...The label below MUST be printed on the CD's in order to work.

Replace Tascam DP-01FX/CD -- the CD R/W won't work

I don't think there is a problem with your CD writer.  You have not inserted the type of disc your write drive requires.  You must use a BLANK "AUDIO CD-R".   Check your instruction manual concerning the type of disc required.  Data CD-R's will not work in this type of drive.  if the disc has "DATA CD-R" or "700"mb or "800mb" printed on it it will not work.  audio CD-R's are not as common and are a bit more costly.   They are the only type of disc that will RECORD in your drive.  Regular audio CDs should play in your drive.  I hope this solution will work for you and I wish you every success!
