The higher the number - usually the harder the motor works - so for very cold - go 6

My old lec elan upright freezer is not freezing, it has been switched off and in the garage over the summer. It has been switched on for a week with the control at 6. It is only down to -4 degrees C....

It sounds like corrotion in the piping has created such a fine leak eg Pourous Piping Letting Most of the refrigerant escape. It woud be advisable to condemn the freezer as even if patched up it would be un reliable causing a loss of money ror repairs and loss of food.Hope this helps.

It freezes up because there's warm air going through the door or the gaskets are letting the outside air getting in.

Sears Kenmore Deep Freezer settings

It sounds like you have a circulation problem.
Spread out the packages so the freezing air can circulate.

  • Check that the condenser fan is on
  • Check that the coils are not covered with lint and dust especially if they are under the freezer.
  • you may need a tech to put freon in the system.
