Question about John Deere Garden

1 Answer

I have a JD 3225B reel mower and it doesn't want to cut grass consistently. I have a big yard with no big slopes, the mower seems to cut well at times and then just pushes the grass over other times. The reels also get plugged easily. Any advice?

1) The reels/knives are out of adjustment or reels could be dull. These could cause grass of certain height or moisture to cut poorly and some to cut ok. 2) Engine speed may be too low to give sufficient power / cut speed to blades. 3) Hydraulics to mowers could be low on fluid or not pumping properly.

I think with those things you might be cutting grass that is to long, try to raise the height setting if possible and try cutting again. Do this until you get going then adjust back down to desired height. Good Luck...

I own a cordless Black & Decker 19" rechargeable mulching mower, CMM 1200, 24V. There are days that it starts beautifully, and others where it remains quiet and uncooperative. Temperature seems to...

Mulching mowers are notorious for needing to be cleaned out frequently. The problem usually is the cutting height. The lower it is, the faster it gets clogged up.

Cutting wet grass doesn't help this situation either, it actually makes it clog up much faster.

Set the cutting height to about 3", and wait until the grass is dry before you cut it. This should help with the cuttings buildup.

As a landscaper, I deal with lawnmowers on almost a daily basis, and on cold mornings, the mowers are sluggish and don't want to run well.

If you keep your mower stored in a weather proof building with a consistent temperature and humidity level, there shouldn't be many issues with startup. Start it up and let it idle at half choke before cutting.

I hope this helps you.

I have a mtd yard man 22inch / mulcher . My question is how do I get the mower to start mulching ?

For mowers like yours, there are straight cut discharge blades (for bagging the grass) and there are more expensive upswept mulching blades. Any holes in the sides of the deck must be covered to mulch as the blade keeps the grass up in the air under the deck, repeatedly cutting it...over and over..till it falls on the ground. So use a solid deck with the upswept type blade.

Is this the first time cutting grass with a lawn tractor?
How tall of grass?
Use the grass cutting heigth adjustments on the tractor to a higher setting when cutting tall grass. Cut again to a lower height setting on the second pass. Grass higher than your tractor is not good for your tractor. Follow the manual instructions for best results.
