Do you expect a shortcut to be on your desktop for Microsoft Word? It may be still on your computer, or it may be uninstalled somehow.

I will assume it is still on your computer.
Click on start.
Click on search
Search for "word.exe" without quotes
If it finds the word program, right click it and then click on Create shortcut on desktop.
