There was a smell of burning, i.e. very hot wiring insulatiuon (?) on old Kenwood Chef Model 901. Could it be the motor or some other component, and can I repair it? If it is due to overloading due to dried out lubrication, how can I fix this as well? Many thanks.

Yes Alex, you were absolutely right. When I thought it was the motor, I was prepared to dump the whole machine as it would have been far too expensive to repair. But your comments encouraged me to take the machine to a local repair shop (well, 22 miles away, but that's close in Cornwall!) and they fixed it for less than the very expensive transport costs for the main company advertising on Google. Thanks for your help.

Hi sometimes, its not the motor, maybe its the speed control, in this model same A701 its centrifugal system, if the capacitor or resistor not working fine, give this smell . you must give your Kenwood for repair or check

Smoking Kenwood Chef A901

I have just had the exact sme problem.
It is caused by a 1 watt resistor on the board.
You will also find that very possibly the large capacitor, a 0.1uF, has aso burnt out. This capacitor would have cracked open down the side and that is where the smoke came from.
parts can be replaced by a repair man and possibly a better solution is to have the board replaced, They are availiable still.

Kenwood 500 watts

It may be the motor but it is most likely a burnt out capacitor, these can be replaced for around £30. It is not a DIY job unless you know a qualified electrician as soldering is involved. Best to take it in for repair if you think it is worth it.
