Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. Can you please try to do a power drain by removing the battery for 3-5 minutes and after that connect the AC adapter and try to turn it on without the battery see if you will still have the same issue. This case was nothing to do with the RAM, HD and ODD. Were trying to find out if this is an issue with the motherboard. Please let me know what happen.

Thanks

HI - if draining the power of the motherboard wont help it seems to be that this is a hardware failure. If the laptop is restarting with no Display we can say that this is a problem with the motherboard. Some components on the motherboard is bad that is causing the issue. What i suggest is to check the warranty of the machine so that you can send it for repair free of charge. And most important please avoid to keep it turning on because if a component on a motherboard is bad and it keep on receiving power it can cause a problem on other hardware parts of the computer due to short curcuit. Thanks

Unfortunately sir we need to ask someone who is an expert on the parts of the motherboard. Acer would be able to check that for you. And just a heads up if the motherboard is the issue they will be replacing the whole motherboard.

Acer aspire 5520 shut down after turned on for a few seconds

Hi Chritina,

I understand the frustration but this issue happens if the issue is with the hardware. It may be due to overheating of the computer, any hardware conflicts or malfunction, or may be due to Operating System corruption. Please try the below steps:

1. Keep on tapping F2 key on your computer keyboard as soon as you hit the power button.
2. Then press F9 key, press "Y" to confirm and then Press "F10" and press "Y" to confirm, the computer will restart.

It should take care of the issue, however, if the issue still persists, then follow the below mentioned steps:

You can restore the computer back to factory default,to do so, follow the below steps: Turn OFF the computer, now as soon as you hit the power button, keep on holding "Alt" key & keep on tapping "F10" key, i.e Alt+f10, it will open the recovery console, select full factory restore and follow onscreen instruction. NOTE: This will erase all the data on the computer.

However, if the issue still persists then the computer needs a Motherboard replacement, in that case you may need to contact Acer Technical support at 1 800 816 2237 and arrange a Depot Repair for the computer.

Thanks and regards,
Jitha

This is a typical indication that the hard drive has failed. Hopefully, you have a backup of the data on that hard drive as you will have to replace it with a new one.

Acer Aspire 5520

check if dvd drive will eject if not
if it doesnt - try another socket
if still gets nothing - change fuse in plug
if same - try another power adapter (preferably from same manufacturer and model)
If still doesnt get power try get new power supply unit from repair shop or get quote for cost to fix
