Question about Brother LX3125 Sewing Machine

1 Answer

Top thread from spool somehow gets out of the needle when sewing. Sometimes top thread breaks; other times it just escapes the needle. I redid threading from top and from bobbin to see if that would fix. It didn't. I thought fabric was too thick or dense for needle, so I grabbed thinner fabric to test and top thread still didn't stay put or do what it's supposed to do. Should I try replacing needle?

Try loosening the tension and pulling a longer string of thread. Also, if the needle is not at the highest point, when you start sewing, the thread will pull out.

The upper thread keeps breaking whenever I sew even though it is always properly threaded and the needle is fine

check the age of the cotton
cotton is not a single thread but a series of fine threads bonded with a glue
old cotton glue breaks down and the thread separates easilty
next check that the needle is installed correctly with the grove ( thread groove away from the bobbin hook
check the needle and hook timing because if it is off a fraction , the hook will pierce the the thread causing it to break
next check that the eye is the correct size for the thread in use
a needle eye too small for the thread thickness will jam the thread ans not let slide through the eye properly

Kenmore mini ultra The top thread breaks off from needle after a few stitches. The bobbin seems to Be catching the top thread. Thank you. ??

If the top thread sews a few inches and then breaks, something is catching the top thread and holding it until it breaks. Usually, this will happen when using the old style thread cones with the slit in the edge to keep the thread from raveling off the spool. To prevent the thread from hanging up, turn the thread spool over so the slit is at the top instead of the bottom. Sometimes top thread breaks will happen if the thread becomes looped around the thread spool pin.

Remove the thread, ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and then rethread the upper thread. Verify that the thread path is correct and that the thread has not looped around a guide.

If the thread is fraying at the needle eye, the needle/thread are not compatible. Also, the tension may be too high.

Check that the upper tension disk is clean--no gunk buildup or thread pieces stuck.

If the thread is actually breaking when it penetrates the needle plate hole, there may be a burr or nick somewhere below that is catching the upper thread. You can wrap your finger with a piece of fine fabric, like an old pair of hosier, fine knit fabric, etc. and running your finger around in the bobbin area, under the needle plate. If you get snags, then you have a burr or nick. If it is small, you can sometimes smooth it with a fine emery board. If it is a large burr, you may need to purchase a replacement part.

Singer sewingmachine how to stop thread from breaking on the top

Thread breakage is often caused by a burr on the needle. Whenever i have a problem with thread breakage, I unthread the machine, replace the needle, and rethread.
Sometimes thread will wrap around the spool pin, so I use the upright spool pin or use a mug or water glass to hold the spool upright behind the machine.

Thread keeps on breaking whilst sewing

Could be one or a combination of the following factors:
old dry brittle thread
burr, or broken thread loop or damaged metal somewhere in the threading path that is catching the thread.
Top thread spool is catching, sometimes the thread will catch on the paper label on top of the spool or in the little knick on the spool, or if you have left a long loose loop of thread at the back and then its catching on the spool holder or some part of the machine and impeding the thread flow.
Bent, burred or blunt needle.
Needle in backwards
Incorrect threading up on top thread, maybe looped twice around take up lever?
Dirt or lint in the tension discs

I suggest you locate the manual and clean the machine, particularly the tension discs. Then oil and thread up from scratch with fresh needle, wind a new bobbin and check the thread path is correct.

If you still can't get a good stitch, then take it in for a service, tension device may be faulting.

Hello, I have a Shark euro-pro sewing machine. I am sewing denim on denim using singer needles that were suggested for denim. The numbers on the package are 2020 110/18 808 R 130/705H 05 un I...

The size of needle is fine for sewing on denim so unless the needle is bent (and even so) I doubt that is the problem. Breaking upper thread typically has more to do with the threading, ie wrapped around some place along the way or misthreaded somehow, of even if you somehow got knots or that it has somehow got thread around the spindle for the spool. So first recheck the threading. Best to do by simply totally unthreading it, looking closely at the spool and winding and then rethreading it again. Make sure your upper tension hasn't been accidentally tightened too.

Next check the bobbin and bobbin thread. First pull on the thread. Is it pulling real tightly or does it flow out readily? Take the bobbin out and look at it. Check the tension also. Is it too tight? That too can cause the upper thread to break.

Is the needle penitrating the material smoothly? Again examine the needle closely to see if it's developed a burr. Better yet just swap the needle with a new needle and try it.

The majority of the time it is one of these things that will cause the top thread to break.

Why does my thread keep breaking and why wont the sewing machine stich?

sometimes the thread can get caught on the spool pin
or on the notch on the thread spool itself
on some machines the thread can come off the thread take up lever
it can also get caught in the top tension area
also check your needle to see if it's bent--roll on flat surface to see if it rolls correctly
there are 3 types of bad needles-bent
blunt--makes a popping sound when going thru fabric
damaged--broke tip
also check your bobbin area for lint or loose threads
check your bobbin to see if it's warped--I've come across some that were warped
check your top thread tension

Needle keeps breaking when embroidery unit is attached

Make sure the top thread is not catching and causing the breakage.

Sometimes the thread unwinds too fast and catches on the spool pin and sometimes there is a rough spot on the thread spool that catches the thread.

Thread nets will help eliminate the fast unwind (pooling) - you can find them at sewing machine dealers.

If the thread spool has a rough notch that is catching the thread, smooth it with an emery board or turn the spool so the thread feeds from the opposite end.
