The power source works fine. When you turn on the player there is a grinding noise which continues when you try to open the cd box or play a cd which the player will not do. Yes, it is an older model, I believed purchased around 2001. Where is this fuse you are referring to?

Check whether the power is coming to its power socket or not. If not check the AC power chord. If there is power at the power socket, and still the device does not work, check the fuse [glass cartridge type], inside it. If fuse is also OK, check its mains transformer. You can check its mains transformer with a multimeter set to KOms range. There must show continuity with the meter. These are only possiblity for a dead device. Your device is an old model I thinks. If so, component availability will be rare. If transformer has burned, it can only be rewinded. OK.

If the power supply is correct, there is no question arises with fuse. I thought it is totally dead, and that is why I described about it. There is some crakced wheels, or worn out ones that makes the noise. To rectify this, you have to take out disassemble its CD mechanism. It is unpredictable, which wheel makes the trouble. Anyway it is purely a mechanical problem. I've contacted Sony here, but they have no documents about this set with them now, and says it is outdated. We have to find out the reasone for this noise ourselves in short. OK.

Discplayerwontplay open or rotate

You will need to take off the surround metal and look down into the disc changer. There are gears mixed with small belt drives that are used to open and rotate the disc changer. If the teeth of the gear or the rubberbands are snapped this will cause the player to not work properly.

Please accept if this helpful.

Thank you

Spin both directions theb display show table error

Usually CD rotates in the clockwise direction. Whenever you are using CD which your CD player cannot detect then CD is rejected and suddenly CD rotates in anticlockwise direction.
Also, If your player is older and your CD players laser head worn out then CD's which were played good previously cannot be played properly and then stop in middle, when this happens you can see CD rotating in anti direction.

Clean the laser head, with CD cleaner and do not use scratched CD's

Broken carouself? Can't properly open, close, rotate, etc.

Broken gears. The current replacement 5 disc is a CD/DVD player and sells for $129.00 at Sony or any other Sony retailer. The cost to have a service center even estimate the repair would be more than 50% of the replacement cost. Hope this helps

CD player problem

Seems like the Timingfor the Tray Open / close has got disturebed. Could be a bad drive gear, or as simple as a loose Drive belt. Get it checked by a professional.
