The needle on my Chaplin RCA VIntage turntable #841.670 needs replacing and there is no information in the instruction manual as to what type of needle is needed or how to change it. Does anyone know the type of needle that I need? Most electronics stores I have been to say they can't repair it unless I know what kind of needle I need....

Hello biggirl, I have a never ending love for recordes. Its proven they have more MUSIC on them than the digial. The needle carrtage may have to be replaced along with a needle to find one. The needels are not esy to find nowadays. The record player should accept the carrtage but the toner arm may have its preferances. I suggest calling your local commerical radio shop (Motorola, ect) or your local hospital and ask for their BioMedical services department to kindly ask is a technican is available to help you for a few minutes.

I need a new needle- where can I get it- part number please.

Copy down the brand and model of the turntable and go to your local stereo shop. Radio Shack used to carry these, too - but I don't know if they do anymore. Sometimes the cartridge needs to be replaces as well. That will be the rectangular piece the needle is inserted to on the underside of the tone arm. If your see a name and number on it - write it down. The needle can be easy to replace - the cartridge however is a little more involved.

You will need a very old type of cartridge called CERAMIC CARTRIDGE or CRYSTAL CARTRIDGE. It has been discontinued. Today's Hi-Fi use magnetic cartridge. Check out this link below

Hiya, check and be sure the turntable is plugged into correct inputs, "phono"

If thats OK, then probably is the stylus but could also be the cartridge itself. Check the wires on the back of cartridge make sure they are fixed properly. If all Ok, then start with a new stylus first.

Hope it helps

Try pushing the button on the far right. I had this same problem last night before I released the button was in the wrong position. It is called the "Lift" button and when depressed it lifts the needle up from the record- or keeps it raised and never lets it come down.

Distorted sound.

Your turntable is a preamp. Your amplifier might be going bad. did you connect it into phono? dont connect it into the cd or dvd input because those wont work.
