same problem to a t, is there any "updated software" online pretaining mp3 files? There isn't anything on the disk given. Being the only trouble shooting notes, on a troublesome peice of electronics, i'm quite disappointed.

The problem is the files.
What I'm doing right now is going through the files, cutting and pasting the individual mp3 files (Not the folders) to a temp file, deleting the artist and album folders from the player, and cutting and pasting them back into the player.
This is very labour intensive.
The player will look at how many folders (artist) sub-folders (album) then songs. When it hits 500 it stops looking. I had about 100 artists with several albums for most. It would only list 2 songs. I've deleted several artists (and sub-directories) and copied the songs onto the player (no folders) now I'm up to about 20 songs.
The "easiest" way to load the player is to copy/paste individual mp3's onto the player.
I'm looking for a firmware upgrade but I don't think I'll find one. The players seem to be made by Curtis International ( www.curtisinst.com )

Actually u have to get a USB cable. first plug in the USB cable to your computer and then your mp3 then go to my computer you will see a hard drive named removable disk and it will have a letter beside it click on removable disk and open it up but first if you want songs you have to install a software on the internet called lemonwire it is the best download it and then open it up and download your songs on it then highlight them all and click and hold at the same then drag the songs into the removable disk folder then it will say writing on your sylvania mp3 when your done take the usb cable out (yoou can download as much songs as you want one time but it matters what GB you have if you have a 4gb it can only hold 500 songs or 30 folders if it is 2gb then you can only hold 250 songs or 15 folders its the same instructions in the manual but it is just harder to read in the manual ur welcome have any questions email me at alisha4-@hotmail.com btw i am only 11 years old i learned how to do computer stuff at the age of 6 without getting computer lessons tell me anything and i will help no problemo!

Curtis international does not support their products, their support is terrible, their ??techs?? only know how to walk you through their support webpage, buy a name brand, you pay for what you get.

I have the same mp3 player with the same problem. First, it doesn't like folders, so only put the songs on, not the folders they are in. Drag and drop seems to work the best. Most other programs will copy the folder as well. Second, even though it is 4GB (at least mine is) it can only read just over 500 files (on mine this is just over 2GB). I dragged and dropped 620 files. My player reads that there are 515 files. I also put the songs in a folder called music. I'm not sure if that is needed or not, but it seemed to have worked. I have spent way too many hours trying to deal with this stupid mp3 player so I am really happy that I finally managed to get some music on there!!!

I'm wondering if there are any format requirements for the MP3, maybe certain bitrates it supports? I recently purchased the same MP3 Player. I created a folder called MUSIC at the root and placed my files and folders in there. I can play 2 out of the 5 artists that i've placed in there. It's odd. The manuals from Curtis says nothing about it.

How do I put music on my mp3 player

Hello,
There's a manual for the SMPK4066 in pdf format, next online view:
http://www.curtisint.com/html/CustService/Manuals/SYL_SMPK4066_ENFR.PDF
Read the connection and download (better to say transfer) information on page 6, chapter 4.5.

When not having Adobe Reader installed on your computer for reading pdf files, get the reader here:
http://get.adobe.com/reader/
note
When the reader is installed, you will be able to save the online view into a file on your computer for later use, giving the file a name with extension .pdf (no need to go online for viewing the manual after saving)

If there is no picture displayed after the player is connected to PC and cannot serve as

(1) Download the most updated software from the attached CD (if any) or from the
website and implement the setup.exe files in the folder to complete the installation.
(2) Long press power button of the player for five seconds and then plug in the USB
cable.
(3) Implement the updated software installed by step (1) to start software upgrade and
release the Power/Stop button.
(4) The upgrade of software may format the player, so please copy the music or files in
the player.
(5) If the software upgrade program cannot detect the player, please unplug the USB
cable and repeat step (2) and (3) until the player is detected and the software
upgrade is completed.

Have you tried removing the battery from your cell phone.. Blowing off the battery making sure that their isnt any thing on it. Such as dust, animal or human hair, or lint between the area where the battery and your cell phone connect.? Try that first.

The songs are in the wrong format - iTunes is not comaptible with it, and it may or may not take protected WMA's. Use mp3 format songs and you should be fine.

Well folks after thinking about this long and hard, I have finally figured this little device out. What we all though was a piece of junk works!! Just wish some directions would have been sent with the MP3 Player. All you need to do is simple make sure you have Real Player the SMPK 2021 is completely compatible with this player drag and drop your music and add to your device. It works great.. you can also delete any old music and upload new music but all needs to be done through your real player!! You can also add videos the same way!!! I am more than willing to help you out... took me long enough to figure it out, hate to see someone bang their head against a wall as much as I have.... so good luck My Mp3 is now rockin
