Has anyone ever had one of these units quit blowing cold air and just start blowing room temperature air? If so, is it repairable ?

The air on uses volatile liquid just like a refrigerator and over time this loses gas and pressure which then stops it from cooling air.you need to have it re gassed by a refrigeration engineer if the compressor is still working.

Using as heater and unit is blowing cold air

A heat pump is an air conditioner that reverses its refrigerant flow. In the cooling mode, the evaporator is cold to the room and its condenser is hot. In the heating mode, a valve reverses the refrigerant flow and makes the evaporator warm and the condenser cold.

Unit blows cool air for a short period then blows hot air , like it changed to heat pump mode

It sounds like the unit is low on refrigerant or a safety is saying so. You need a diagnostic run.

My kenmore window unit AC started blowing a white smoke like substance. It seems to be cooling fine. What is this and is it a concern?

The two things it could be, #1 - evaporator leaking refrigerant - unlikely if unit is still cooling o.k. because window units do not hold a lot of refrigerant and if there is a leak bad enough to blow smoke it would have stopped cooling by now. #2 - the humidity is high and the unit has cooled the air right at the discharge down below the dewpoint, a common occurence in window units and automobiles due to the short duct distance from the evaporator to the air outlet whereas with central air systems having longer duct systems the air gains more heat before being discharged into the room.

Whirlpool stopped blowing cool air. Unplugged

It sounds as if your defrost timer has failed. Unplugging the unit over night allowed the unit to defrost. If unplugging it overnight or by using a stnd fan blowing into the freezer section for 90 minutes results in the fan blowing cold air then your unit is not defrosting. Most often the defrost timer is the problem. However there could be other defrost circuit like the thermostat or the defrost element. In order to provide you with the correct solution and defrost timer location you should privde your model number for further instructions.

Wont no water to empty or drain

Either the unit is really dirty or it is low on refrigerant. A unit tha is low on refrigerant will start off cold and withing a few minutes, start warming up. If you aren't seeing any water its because of one or both causes listed.
