Question about Cameras

1 Answer

I have purchased a Kiwifotos lens "T" mount adapter for the Sony Alpha A290 camera from Amazon as suggested by Fix Ya . The mount fits alright but as the camera does not accept this as a lens being fitted - the shutter has a lock on it - so a picture cannot be taken. Is there an over-ride to the shutter lock. Otherwise although amazon states it is for the Alpha Sony camera's it will not work. Any suggestions please Mr Robert Cole

You're right in getting a T-mount-adapter for the Minolta / Sony Alpha / Maxxum AF A-mount / Alpha-mount camera body - they are all the same (since 1985). Any make will do, none are name brand anymore, and all have house-names like "Bower" or "Cambridge" or "Adorama" or whatever - store-name repackaging of UFO original stuff - NOTHING SPECIAL. T-mounts are the OLDEST interchangeable lens design for SLRs.

Sound like your problem is other, like on the cam body - this was an infrequent issue with the A100 - it should not be much more than an 1/8 turn, this might seat the lenses a bit tighter in the mount and add a little pressure on the contacts. Also, cleaning the contacts in the body is not to be forgotten. Clean both the contact pins on the camera body as well as the contacts on the lenses. After the use of rubbing alcohol also use a fresh swab to "polish" the contacts a bit. Use the alcohol sparingly, you don't want to get it into your camera or lens.

If all that does not help - and as this happens with a variety of lenses and your cam is still under warranty - sounds like sending the body in with your description of the problem is the choice left. This may be an internal loose contact in the wiring.

Keep us updated.

I have a nikon mount AF 70-300 quantaray lens that I am trying to find a mount so that it can fit onto my sony alpha DSLR camera. Does this exist? Will a simple T mount fix my problem?

A simple T mount adapter will NOT work, since your lens doesn't have a T-mount.

If your lens has an aperture ring then something like this will work.

You'll see more information here.

I was wondering if quantarry lens will fit on sony dslr a230 cameras?

Quantaray makes lenses with a variety of mounts. If you specify a lens with a Sony mount then it will fit on the alpha 230. If you get a lens with a Nikon mount, for example, then it won't fit on a Sony.

Is the Sigma Telephoto 400mm f/5.6 APO AF lens compatible with the Sony alpha camera?

Sigma makes their lenses with a variety of mounts. A lens with a Canon mount, for example, will not fit onto a Sony camera. Assuming you get the Sigma lens with a Sony mount then yes, it will be compatible with the Sony alpha.

I have been offered a SiGMA 400mm F/5.6 manual lens for a minolta mount. Will it fit my camera? Cheers Pete

Minolta had two lens mounts. One for manual focus SLR film cameras and one for Auto Focus SLR Maxxum film and digital SLR cameras. Sony uses Minolta Maxxum lens mount.
If the Sigma 400 f5.6 lens was made for Minolta X-700 series, XG, series, XD series, SRT series, then it will not fit on your camera.

The Sony ALpha camera actually use a Konica/ Minolta lens mount. a 500 or 1000mm lens won't have any really mechanical connection to make, so if you can find the lens with a Minolta mount , it should fit. BTW- most of those long lenses require a T mount adapter to fit on ANY camera-

Minolta 7000 Maxxum

The Minolta Maxxum 7000 uses a Minolta A mount, which is also used on the Sony Alpha series, as they bought out Minolta's technology. All Maxxum lenses should work for the most part on the Sony Alpha series of DSLR's, including the autofocus.

Lens ? Are the lens' from my old reliable sony f828 compatible with the sony alpha 300 I am thinking of ordering? Is there a fix if not?

You can try going to the camera store, and finding an adapter ring for it I've got an alpha 100 and can use konica/maxxuum lenses, and with an adapter I can also use Pentax screw mount.I wouldn't have bought the sony a100 unless it would take my other lenses too. Take the old lens and the a300 in to try out for a good fit.
