C3 is a very buggy phone, many a times when one is having an sms convo. or viewing pictures or even when the phone is idle it hangs up automatically and restarts.
The easiest method to get rid of it is to update your Phone's firmware.
You can do it yourself by installing Ovi Software on your PC (It comes with Nokia-C3 in a CD).
All you have to do is install the Ovi Software connect your phone and select update software.
and the other is to use only Nokia Manufactured Accessories.
I had this phone and I updated the software to get rid of this issue.
Also try to use a 2 GB card instead of your 4 GB one, the larger the memory the slower it will make the phone.
Hope it helps.

1 remove your battery sim card and memory card (memory card should be enough but removing all can not hurt and wait couple of minutes
2. insert sim and battery and turn it on without memory card
3. if it turns on normally turn it back off
4. insert memory card and turn it on again
This worked for me. There are also other suggestions like try to defragment the memory card... but so far it works so i am not trying that one yet

It is possible that the phone has hung up because there are errors in the software. So to reset remove the battery and the memory card from the phone. Using your PC , scan the memory card for any corrupt files or media files with virus- it is possible when they are downloaded from unsafe sites. If so remove or format the card. Copy only valid files to the card and do a scan before it is replaced. Now replace the card and battery and switch on the phone. If the phone hangs up or is slow when it is switched ON , then it is possible that the fault is relative to the software and will need a reinstallation. Possible hardware issue cannot be ruled out.
