Check your display properties, I doubt that model supports duel monitors. It's simply just a video output of what would be displayed on your LCD screen.

Start with photos and music files: if there are duplicates - make SURE they are exact duplicates (name/file size/R click-quicklook). You can get an external hard drive cheaply ( and move important info. If you are unsure of your knowledge - ask friends!

How do i add a secondary monitor

If I saw correct picture of your laptop, you have HDMI and VGA connector on the left-hand side. Just connect external display, then press Windows key and key "P" and you will be presented with toggle screen with 4 options: 1-Disconnect projector, 2-Duplicate, 3-Extend and 4-Projector only. Choose to your liking (in your case: Duplicate).
Note: this is solution for Windows 7, 8.0 and 8.1. 25329432-yuc33qzjuwfqgyyin4u45syc-3-0.png

Dark screen when switched on

Does your display work when you enter the BIOS? Have you ensured your display settings brightness are turned up?
Attach an external monitor - Look for the projector display on your keyboard (it could be F5, F6, F7, F8 - depending on your model). Often attaching external monitor will auto display monitor selector. Select "duplicate" - if your monitor still doesn't work on your machine but does on the external monitor you may have a hardware issue.

Black screen death

Press your F4 key, it has a picture that looks like a monitor on it. windows will then ask you if you want computer only, duplicate or projector only. You are probably in projector only mode, change it to computer only or duplicate if you have an external screen attached, that should turn on your display.

Connecting 2 monitors to laptop without dock

I highly doubt that your machine will allow more than one monitor without both of the monitors being the same image. External monitors on laptops can be used to extend the display, but only by using the laptop screen as one of the two. It is possible to split VGA to duplicate images on two screens, but true dual monitors will require a DMS output or something similar, which I've never seen on a laptop.

I am using a MacBook with an Acer Monitor with a mini connection. The monitor shows the start up screen of the MAC but known of the icons nor does it reflect what is on the MacBook while I am working.

This is a very simple solution, fortunately. The default behavior of an external monitor connected to a portable Mac is to act as extra space, effectively extra screen "real estate," where you can move windows or do whatever else you need to.
Verify this by moving your mouse to the right-hand side of your screen, and then keep going - you'll see your mouse appear on the external monitor.

If you want to have the external monitor reflect exactly what you are doing on the primary monitor, simply go to Apple menu > system preferences > displays > arrangement and check 'mirror displays.'

And that's all there is to it!

Half of my laptop screen is greyish and hard to read through

It seems to me you can have one of two problems;

1. Your screen is failing an you need a replacement.
2. Your video card/chip is failing

Let's hope for #1 and here's how to find out. Connect your laptop to an external monitor and transfer the video signal to that monitor. If your laptop's desktop and other video apps appear normal, then you just need a new screen.

If, however, the gray area is duplicated on the external monitor, then your video chip is failing. This can be an expensive repair out of warranty.

Best Regards,

How to set up multiple external monitors on a laptop

Since you only have one external monitor port, you need to use a video spillter, this will allow you to connect two or more external monitors.

NOTE: This video splitter will only give you duplicated displays. Please check the link below:

Thank you!
