Question about Netopia 3-D Reach (TER/GUSB-N1) (TERGUSBN1) 802.11g/b Wireless Adapter

2 Answers

Earlier today I was connected to the internet fine. I stepped away from my computer for a little bit and now it doesn't connect to the internet. The wireless adapter is showing that it is connected to the wireless router but I cant connect to the internet. I called the maker of my wireless router and they had me change some stuff around and they asked what brand the wireless adapter was and they said I needed to contact them for support. Any help would be great!

If you can connect to the network but not to the internet 90% of the time its something you need to call your internet supplyer for (not the router manufactor e.g Virgin, BT, Talk Talk.)

Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can do so you can isolate whether the problem is with the router , the modem or your pc.
1. Disable / enable the wireless connectivity in your laptop.2. Restart the laptop. Then check if it is working. If not, go to the next step.
3. Restart your modem and router by unplugging the power cord on the back of the devices. Wait for the devices to load, then check if it is working. If not, proceed to the next step.
4. Try connecting your laptop to the modem directly by using an ethernet cable. If it did work, the problem is with the router. Its best to call the manufacturer of your wireless router if that's the case.
5. If step 5 still didnt work when you already connected your laptop directly to the modem, the problem is with the modem itself. Call your internet service provider and they'll do troubleshooting steps on their end too.
Hope this was helpful! Have a great day.

Hello, I am trying to install my d-link 125 usb adapter. I had to download the windows 7 driver from the d-link website, and now I am trying to install it to my computer. When I try to run the driver...

Use the following steps to let Windows do the installation for you.

Step 1: Use an Ethernet cable and plug your computer directly to your Internet gateway. Make sure Internet is accessible.

Step 2: Place your new adapter in the proper slot or port.

Step 3: With your computer running, a bubble message will appear stating that this device was not installed successfully. Left click on the message.
But if the message no longer appears, skip to Device Manager Installation.
Step 4: On driver installation failure, you can change the setting to use Windows Update by clicking Change setting...
Step 5: Chose to allow Windows to update your driver when it is not found on you computer.
Step 6: Once the driver installs successfully, close the window.

Step 7: Click/Right Click on the Network Icon located on the system tray to View the Available Wireless Networks. Find your personal Network and double click to connect. It should request for a wireless key, which by now should have been set up.

Cannot connect to the internet. Have the wireless USB piece and is set up, but will not surf.

  1. Test your internet connection by directly connecting your modem into your computer.Bypassing the router.If it doesn't connect to internet then your router isn't the culprit.Contact your internet service provider for your area.If it does not connect then follow below step.
  2. Reconnect your router to the computer.Turn on your computer and find program associated with router.Select "options" select security options and select security mode and turn your router off.Attempt an internet connection. If it does not connect to the internet then your router might have broken and tell it to a company. If it does connect then your computer may have experienced a security breech that router does not allow it.
  3. Run a virus scan or malware scan for your computer.

I cant connect to internet

There are lots of possibilities here since you didn't give us much info to go on. Some helpful information would be:

1. DSL, Cable Modem, Sat Modem, other ISP
2. Is the problem with the router, or the network connection
3. What are the model numbers on your router, and if that doesn't connect directly to the wall, what does it connect to.
4. are you connecting from a desktop or laptop
5. are you connected to the router over wireless, or Ethernet cable
6. are there any other devices in your house/apartment that can connect to the internet (is 1 device down, or are all the devices down)

With the little information we have, I would suggest unplugging your router for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in. It will take anywhere from 30 seconds to several minutes to reset and reconnect.

If this doesn't fix the issue, give some more details and I will give the next step.

Thanks,
John Vickers

Hi,

Improve the Fixya.com experience for everyone by voting!

The solution I'm suggesting works in my business (LAN installations) about 95% of the time. I trust that it will work for you.

Let's see if I can help you.

Begin by turning on your computer and your router

? Make sure your service provider has activated your account and services on the subscribed line. Please check with your service provider to confirm this.
? Make sure that you are using the latest drivers. You can download the latest driver from Driver Downloads Database.
? Make sure that you have entered the right username and password (case-sensitive) as given by your service provider. For example, in Australia: user@bigpond; in NZ: user.name.xadsl@xtra.co.nz.
? Open Internet Explorer;
? Click on 'Tools';
? Click on 'Internet Options';
? Click on 'Connections';
? Click on 'Setup'
? Click on 'I want to set up my Internet connections manually . . .';
? Click on 'Next';
? Click on 'I connect through a local area network (LAN);
? Clock on 'Next'
? Click on 'Next' [This is not an error];
? Click on 'No';
? Click on 'Next';
? Click on 'To connect to the Internet immediately . . .; and,
? Click on 'Finish'.

That should have you online. However, if it doesn't get you on line, do the following: Click on tools again. Click on 'Diagnose Connection Problems' and follow the instructions.

The last choice is to use the Setup Wizard. It seldom works for me but you might more luck than poor me. Here are the instructions:

The Connect to the Internet wizard will guide you through the steps of setting up an Internet connection.

Open the Connect to the Internet wizard by:

• Clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button
• Click on Control Panel.
• In the search box, type network,
• Click "Network and Sharing Center"
• Click Set up a new connection or network
• Then double-click "Connect to the Internet".

All the best

It happened because the router automatically resets to it's default settings. Maybe you accidentally touch the reset button or the device was shaken to restore its default settings. Go ahead and check the router configuration. Or maybe the wireless switch of your router was turned off. Better check that as well.

How can i connect to internet using my phone?

Step 1:Take your gprs enabled cell phone and connect it to your computer or laptop using either buletooth,infered or a usb cable.

Step 2:Create a dial up connection.Go into yor control panel,then into internet options.Then go to connections and add.Create a dial up connection and when it asks for a phone number type in *99#

Step 3:On your new dialup connection add the same proxy address you have on your gprs in your cell phone.

Step 4:Now on your cpanel there should be something called modem options (If your 's doesn't have you'll have to search your computer for an option that allows you to change the access point name or also known as the APN) here you must change the APN to whatever your APN is on your gprs in your phone.

Step 5:Go to start menu and connect,then connect to your dial up (make sure your cell phone is connected to your computer or laptop)

Step 6:Start your browser (internet explorer,opera etc) and start surfing the net.

Note that every cell phone has it's own speed for example 3g phones can reach up to speed's of 48 kb/s.
