Question about Cameras

Open Question

I have a flip Ultra HD 2nd gen model: u2120B. I bought it off of eBay, broken. The buttons don't work. The camera is seen by the computer when plugged in. I can format the camera HD and reinstall the software. No change. When I turn the camera on, it goes directly into setup, prompting me to select a language (English). I push all of the buttons and nothing happens. The only button that does anything is the power button. I have taken other flip cameras apart and replaced the LCD, lens, reset the unit and reinstalled the flip software to fix them, so I'm not shy about opening up these cameras. It sounds like a hardware problem. What should I look for when I open it up?

SOURCE: Screen goes blank when capture button is pushed

Seems to be a problem with the camera and the batteries. It thinks the batteries are dead but they aren't, this is the problem I am having with my camera, I'm going to try new batteries and see if there is a Firmware upgrade.

SOURCE: olympus 710 lens won't open

I found tilting my camer downwards towards the floor and removing the usb cover and then turning the camera on worked, I am unsure if its a faulty motor or slightly damaged lens but once it's retracted the camera works fine - this was a test I was able to repeatedly do.

Opening the camera did not display any visible faults although with the housing off it did operate better. this will unfortunatly remove some the cameras weather proofing in the way opening a splash resistant watch will mean it no longer can be used near to water, this is due to the fact these cameras are factory made, also you risk dust getting in.

I have picked up another Olympus with the same fault on eBay it would appear the 760 model also suffers from this same problem

SOURCE: vtech kidizoom camera

We had the same issue. After turning on, nothing on the view screen and the buttons didn't work. The camera could turn on, the turn on screen and sound happened and we cold turn off (show off screen and sound)...even after changing batteries. It was like that for a week.

I found it had to do with TV connector slot. Thinking back, my daughter had been playing with the TV connector right before it stopped working. I took a small hair pin and put it in the TV connector slot, lightly wiggled it and the camera sprung back to life. I'm guessing the camera hardware was acting like it was still plugged in...hence turning off the view screen.

Anyways, hope that helps someone.

My flip video camera mino hd will not turn on and i pluged it onto my computer and it still didn't work. What should i do?

return it for a refund! i bought one, it did the same as yours. i returned it and bought the 2nd one. It did the same as the first one (and the same as yours.)

It is a piece of junk. Supposedly the previous Flips were good, unfortunately, I didn't have the previous models so my experiences only are bad.

Flip Ultra HD won't turn off or on!

It's a bad, intermittent on/off switch. If you're real technical, you can take it apart and try to clean it, chances are it's dirty or the contact is slightly corroded, maybe because of humidity. If you can get a broken "as is" model off ebay, you can swap the parts out, possibly. The last and only easy "fix" to a swith problem, is to spray electric contact cleaner into them, to clean them. There are certain ways that cause less stress to the plastic parts that possibly could be susceptible to cleaner "melting", or damage. This rarely happens, but is only a warning. Now, hold the on/off switch toword the floor, and spray upward, into the switch, pressing the switch on and off as you spray. Blow compressed air into the switch as much as you can, and try to shake the excess spray solution out. Let the camera thoroughly dry (depends on the amount of fluid that got inside), but make sure it's dry, say 10 minutes or so. If the switch doesn't work properly now, the unit will have to be disassembled and further inspected, and possibly repaired or replaced. Other possibilities, such as cold solder joints, or cracked joints can cause similar symptoms, but most of the time it's the switch. Good luck, sometimes you get lucky...:-)

Flip Ultra HD red light won't turn off after charging. Camera won't do anything at all. What do I do?

UNIT: ultraHD
I just had this problem: I turned it on, started to record a video, but it hung up on frame #1, with the record red light stuck on. And I couldn't do any of the following: restart the recording, play already recorded videos, turn it off, connect to PC.
I removed the battery for about 30 seconds, then replaced it. my UltraHD flip works great now.
