Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

Hi My HP Laserjet CP1518ni has recently started overprinting/shadowing text - as if it's misaligned. HP support are useless. Any ideas. Recently replaced all toners with genuine HP cartridges. Thanks

    Hi

Thanks for the info but how do I access this roller to clean it?

  • Ina Martens May 27, 2011

    Hi

I have cleaned the roller with no effect.

I was going to send you a pic and printed out a test page of CMYK colours however this was perfect which was perplexing. As I result I did some testing and have discovered after a process of elimination on my original document that the overprinting/shadowing seems to occur only when there is a combination of colours. Also the effect increases proportionally from left to right of the document. I have tested the document on my other printers and they are perfect so it is definitely specific to the cp1518ni.

    Any further ideas?

  • Ina Martens May 27, 2011

    Hi

What sort of test pages do you suggest?

  • Ina Martens May 28, 2011

    Hi

Cannot print with rear access door open - printer tells me to close rear access door before proceeding.

I am using a Mac OS 10.6.4. Tried finding printer properties with HP support the other day - can't locate. They suggested I re-install driver. They have no driver available for 10.6 - unbelievable. I must have installed the driver prior to installing Snow Leopard.

I am running the printer wirelessly.

    Any further suggestions?

    Thanks

  • Ina Martens May 28, 2011

    Hi

This problem has nothing to do with the operating system as I have been using 10.6.4 for a long time. The misalignment problem only started a week ago. As I mentioned earlier the problem only started after I replaced the last (yellow) toner. Not sure if it started straight away or not - didn't take any notice.

  • Ina Martens May 31, 2011

    Hi

Have just replaced the yellow toner with a brand new one. Remember yellow was the last one I installed before the problem began. Unfortunately no change.

There is no waste cartridge in this model printer.

Look forward to your further suggestions.

    Thanks

Hi

Shadowing text is normally cause by a defective rubber fuser roller or worn out rubber fuser roller or defective fuser film roller (plastic film roller).

Probable the fuser roller inside the printer is sticky toner powder residue on the roller itself. Try to clean it with cotton swab with alcohol that might remove temporarily the shadowing printouts. If you can replace this parts better. This fuser roller might be worn out as well because of bulky printing or due to wear and tear.

Please rate and make a comment if you find this solution very helpful and might help others as well. Post more comments if you need more help.

Regards and thank you for using Fixya !

When you remove the toner cartridge. It is a accessible vievable the rubber fuser roller inside the toner compartment.

  • Benjamin Jr Singson May 27, 2011

    Hi

Rubber Fuser roller is located at the back of the printer (the rear access door). Remove all the toner cartridges and clean the rubber roller on it but make sure the printer is turn off and power cable is remove from power source.

  • Benjamin Jr Singson May 27, 2011

As you mention, you replace all the toner cartridge. It might be one of the toner cartridge is leaking or releasing too much toner when printing when blending with other colors. This should be identified immediately by running a series of test page. Replace this and it might solve your problem.

Also, if this printer have waste toner cartridge, make sure it is not overflowing or leaking.

    Print every color by text?

  • Benjamin Jr Singson May 27, 2011

    Hi

Also, try to print colored printing when the rear access door is open.

This will allow you to see the print before it has reached the fuser, allowing you to rule out cetain components. If the print is shadowed at his stage before getting to the fuser you may have a problem with the toner or imaging unit etc. if the print is ok before it reaches the fuser it is most likely to be a problem with the fuser unit itself.

    Hi

    Try this solution.

    Go to the printer's properties

    Select ports,

    Uncheck 'enable bidirectional support'

    And then restart your computer

  • Benjamin Jr Singson May 28, 2011

Yes, you do not mention about updating your operating system. Updating your operating system will tends to outdated the previous third party software installed in your computer. Like this printer driver compatible for the old MAC OS version.

I quite sure that updating the operating system to MAC 10.6..4 version causes your printer's performance to misaligned, shadowing text or overprinting. I suggest you delete the printer icon and add again the printer to correct the printer driver installed in your computer.

If still the same, download the printer driver for MAC OS 10.6.4 compatibility and they set up or re add again the printer.

  • Benjamin Jr Singson May 28, 2011

Take our suggestion by me and by the HP support to re add or set up again the printer.

If not, as I mention that it might be the yellow cartridge which is defective or leaking. Replace this toner and it might help you solve your problem.

Hp 2100 prints spots

Have you recently cleared a jam? That sometimes can cause issues with specks showing up on that printer. Try cleaning the inside of the printer and run off some pages, as that can sometimes resolve the issue. Alternatively, the issue might be caused by a leaking ink cartridge, so you might want to make sure that isn't the problem. Reference this guide, as some of the information pertains to your specific printer.

use plane paper of 60-80 gsm if your printed paper is offset/screen print it will repeat and shadow appears because of high temprature in fussing unit.

I have a HP laserjet CP1518ni and the envelopes keep getting jammed when feeding them through the manual feeder.

Put a slight curl on envelopes. The curled stack should go toward the back of the tray. This will enable the printer to pick up easier.

Laser Jet 4 overprinting

Printers are dumb terminals. They only do as they are told. Your issue from the description would indicate that the print driver is defective. Goto www.hp.com select printer drivers. The type in laserjet 4. Select your operationg system of your comp. Then select driver and download the latest driver.

HP Laserjet 5P shading edges of page

This is probably due to a defective cartridge, Charge Roller or Transfer roller.

Check the cartridge for a band of toner still on the drum.

Check the Charge roller for oil or smudges, this roller should be a lighter color and should be relatively free of toner or marks.

Same as the Transfer Roll, which will be dark, though excess toner should be evident.

A relatively smooth straight line is generally the cartridge.

A rather wavey or broken line is most likely the rollers.

You can however attempt to print a large amount of pages (25-50) in an attempt to clean the parts, however if either part is defective they will need to be replaced and no manner of printing will clean them.

Printer has started to misalign text, moving up past labels

Verify your paper settings match between the printer and PC. If a roller is dirty the paper might feed late.
