Yes there is a trick.Look at the front of the brush holder and you will see small holes.Push the brush back so it clears the holes and push a piece of wire through the holes. The wire should be long enough to go through a vent. When you button every thing back together pull the wires out and they will be seated and ready to get back to work.Thank You for choosing FixYa.com.I have used this trick a few times.

I always add this for your information. If this is not the solution that you are looking for please re post because when we pick a question to answer FixYa takes it out of the questions.

I have an old 315-11441 Craftsman Drill. I took it apart to fix the switch and in the process something must have shifted in or around the gearing. After putting back together when I power the drill I hear...

With these types of electric motors there is an armature, (the main brain of the motor) it has all the copper wiring wrapped around it and slides between two carbon brushes into the armature housing. If you took out the armature, there is sometimes a very thin peice of metal at the top of the armature which slides into the plastic housing above the armarture and creates a spring loaded "seat" for the armature, if this little shim looking thing fell out, you will need to find the old one. Without this tiny peice of metal the armature in the motor will have play in it causing the brushes to wear to one side or the other prematurely, the brushes have to wear evenly. Sometimes the brushes are spring loaded as well for a self-feed type deal. If these springs are missing the same thing will happen. Also one or both brushes could be in backwards. Check and make sure the brushes (black carbon and rectangular shaped) are positioned to support the spin of the armature. Lord, I hope this helps. I worked with small electronic motors over 15 years ago. I worked at the place for a few months, and didn't think I still remembered everything,

2003 grand caravan drivers window will not roll down, although the controller on the drivers door will roll down the passengers window. any suggestions?

Open the passenger side door & wiggle the harness while pressing the button. If it works then there's a broken wire inside the rubber harness. If not check the passenger side switch for power. Use a test light to verify it switches from up to down. If it doesn't replace the switch.

Its a pain on this model but heres how. First remove plate at back of machine. Remove belt and two bolts holding motor (13mm).Unplug motor and remove. brushes are at back end of motor in plastic housings. after refitting motor replacing belt is where the fun begins. Put bottom end on first and feed round pulley. ouch

Replacing carbon brushes

The housing cover is removed by removing the one Torx (t-20 or t-25 ) screw from the end of the housing where the power cord goes inside.  Once this screw is removed the brushes can be quickly replaced.  Go to this page for an exploded diagram.
http://www.toolpartsdirect.com/cgi-bin/schematic.cgi/bosch/1215.034

The screw you want to remove the housing is listed as part 130 in the diagram.  Then the brush (part 801) can be unplugged an removed from brush holder (part 116) by gently pulling back the brush spring (part 126). Then the spring must be held back to install the new brush. Then plug it in, and replace the other brush, test the unit before replacing the housing cover.  The blue sparks generated by running the unit are normal and will decrease as the new brushes are worn to the shape of the armature.  Good Luck!

hi Many universal motor malfunctions are caused by wearing down of the carbon brushes, the soft blocks of carbon that complete the electrical contact to the motor's commutator. When these brushes become worn, the motor will spark, and electrical contact may be incomplete.try this
Step 1: To sight-check the carbon brushes, remove the screws that hold the brushes and brush springs into the brush holders at the sides of the commutator. The screws will pop out of the screw holes; turn the motor over to tap out the brushes. The ends of the brushes should be curved to fit the commutator; if they're worn down, new brushes are needed.
Step 2: To check carbon brushes with a continuity tester, remove the motor lead wires from the circuit. Tag the wires as you disconnect them so that you'll be able to reconnect them properly. Hook the tester clip to one motor lead and touch the probe to the other lead; the tester should light or buzz. Slowly rotate the motor shaft, keeping the tester in position. If the tester doesn't light or buzz, or if it flickers or stutters when you turn the motor shaft, the brushes should be replaced. If the springs behind the brushes are damaged, they should be replaced as well.

Step 3: Replace worn carbon brushes and damaged springs with new ones made specifically for the motor. The model information (number and make) is stamped on a metal plate fastened to the motor, or embossed on the metal housing of the motor. If you can't find the model information, take the worn brushes and springs with you to an appliance-parts store to make sure you get the right kind. Insert the new springs and brushes in the brush holders, replace the brush assemblies, and secure the new brushes with the mounting screws that held the old brushes.

Washing machine problem

my w830 is doing exactly the same thing.

I am usually pretty good at fixing these sort of things so if/when I solve it I will post back here.

I think it is a motor fault - most likely the motor brushes are worn out.

How can i remove the carbon brushes to check if they need renewed.I have a Hotpoint Aquarious model no WMA34. Much appreciated Chris

you will need to remove the motor, Isolate the supply by unplugging the machine, remove the rear panel, slacken the motor fixing bolts, remove the drum belt, now remove the motor bolts and drop out the motor, un-plug the motor connections.
The brushes are at the rear usually housed in plastic one on each side, disconnect the single wire and carefully remove the housing (2 torx screws), taking care not to break or loose the brush as it is spring loaded,a typical new brush will protrude 30-40mm from the housing a worn brush will be much shorter 8-15mm and just make contact with the motor commutator. replace if necessary, check the comm for wear, refit in the reverse order.

Yes, check the brushes. Our 7-yr. old WFK-2401 just stopped spinning and a brush change did the trick. Repair people wanted $350 for a whole new motor, but it was only the brushes. Replacing them is not very difficult if you are somewhat handy with a 1/2in. wrench and have some common sense about mechanics and electrics. Just look carefully as you loosen motor - disconnect its wires first, and think, and study, and try to understand what you're doing. I took lots of photos just in case. In the end it was easy; make sure to get belt off motor and motor will be out in no time; just two bolts to undo. Also, make sure you put brushes in properly - their tips are slanted and need to go in the right way and make full contact with commutator inside. Again, common sense. Bosch sells brushes, also RepairClinic.com, for slightly more but real Bosch parts. I paid the latter $45 with shipping - Bosch part No. 154740. Another option is to take motor out and find local motor repair shop and have them do it. Bosch won't help you. Power to the people - and the motor!
