There could be several reasons for this issue, including:

(1) Drivers need to be installed on your machine:

  • Find the product number for your laptop (it will usually be somewhere on a bottom panel of your laptop in the form of: dv4001AP or similar)
  • Go to this link here and choose your product number
  • Select your operating system from the choices (Windows 7, Vista, XP, etc.)
  • Scroll down and select "Driver - Keyboard, Mouse, and Input Devices"
  • Select "Touchpad Pointing Device Driver"
  • Select "Download"
  • Select "Open" (or "Save" and then open the file after download)
  • Follow the prompts on the screen
  • Restart your computer at least once in order for the changes to take effect (after installation)
(2) The touchpad has been damaged in some form, whether from exposure to high pressure, temperature, etc. or from prolonged, rough use. In this case, you can choose to have it repaired by a technician, but this may cost money if the product is not under warranty.

Neither of these methods is a guarantee, but it's worth a shot. Good luck

Make sure that the touchpad is enabled in windows. You can check this by going to the control panel and going to mouse settings. Other things you can do is see if other mice will work with your laptop. One final solution is to go into the control panel, then into the device manager, and go to pointing devices. make sure there are no warning signs or red flags. this would indicate a driver failure.

Brand new computer touchpad not working

The blue light is mostly indicating that your touchpad is locked or 'off'. You can turn it on by pressing the 'Function key' (usuallly denoted Fn) and press one of the Fx (F1 - F12) keys with the touchpad lock option.
