Question about Husqvarna 28cc Gas Line Trimmer

I have a 323L line trimmer, will not run, I notice the primer bulb will not fill the gas line. What do I need to do!

Hi cfbuell...

Sounds like you have some debris in the fuel line or in the inlet valve, or maybe a plugged fuel filter to the carburetor.
The only way to fix your problem is to dissemble the carburetor and clean it.
When you clean the jets and orifices of the carburetor be sure to use something like laquer thinner to disolve the varnish left by the old fuel mixes...
Also some of the ethanol fuel can cause the "0" rings and diaphrams to "grow" and become brittle and plug off fuel passages.
Here is some things to check and some hints to hopefully get you going again.

Check/Clean/Replace your fuel filter if you have one, normally they are located in the fuel tank.
Also make sure you are using fresh fuel...and oil mix if your using a two cycle mower or weedeater with the oil to the right mixture and not too much oil as it can cause hard starting.
If the mower/weedeater is over a year old, then I recommend that you buy and install a new carburetor repair kit,because the diaphragm will get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
Sounds like you will need to clean the carburetor or replace your carburetor internal rubber parts like the diaphgram and O rings.
Be sure to use compressed air to blow out all the fuel and air passages.
Be careful when blowing out the passages, because there are sometimes small rubber type seats in the bottom of some of the passages.
Sometimes you can get by with priming the carburetor or using starting fluid and letting it run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of the jets,but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
Keep in mind that the float for the carburetor must be level when you go to reassemble the carburetor or follow the instructions you get with the carburetor kit.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, you will first need to lightly seat the jet screws.
But before you lightly seat the jet screws count the number of turns it takes to seat the jet screws from their original position.
Be sure to mark the turns down on a piece of paper.
That way when you put the jets back in, you know to lightly seat them first and then turn them back out to their orginal position before you started.
Once you have your carburetor rebuilt that should solve your problem.

sounds like you hasve a cracked fuel line or a cracked primer bulb. that is why it cant prime.

Primer bulb not filling


Bulb or fuel line could have a crack or a clog in fuel line/filter or carburetor. Here's a video on how to change the bulb and fuel lines and another video on how to clean/rebuild the carburetor.

need new carb... Primer plate is bad. They will run without it working. Your idle problem is separate from this issue. Fresh fuel/oil mix might help. Some Stihl carbs we just replace because they are cheaper than trying to rebuild...

that line should be longer, it contains the filter which is the pick up, and should rest inside the tank fully,, see if its possible to pull that line farther into the tank, its not going to start until the primer bulb fills

Primer bulb will not fill with gas. got trimmer to run but would do so only when choked after a while it just kept bogging down.


this is normally cause by a bad fuel line that comes from ethonal rotting the fuel line that goes to the bulb...a seperate line can still feed the carb but it makes it really hard to start

Fails to stay running / primer bulb does not fill


Double check that the fuel lines are routed properly. Another place to look for a potential problem is where the fuel line comes out of the tank. Make sure the hose is not pinched. The typical fuel line routing is the first line (the one with the fuel filter in the end of it) comes out of the tank and goes to the bottom fitting on the carburator. The second line comes out of the tank and goes to the bottom fitting on the primer bulb and the third line goes from top fitting on primer bulb to top fitting on carburator. Primer bulb won't re-fill.


Not sure about your particular set-up, but there is usually two fuel lines running from the fuel tank. One goes to the carb and the other goes on a fitting on back of the primer bulb. The primer bulb will have a second fitting with a line going to carb. Sounds like either a clogged or leaking fuel line to me. Hope this helps and good luck.

Hi,
Check the primer bulb for cracks,it will not pump gas if it is torn or cracked. Then check line from bulb to gas tank to see if there connected or are broken.

Primer bulb won't prime


it sounds like the filter on the fule line is cloged try to remove the filter and then try to prime the trimmer. it it does you need to replace the filter. just about any filter that will fit will do.

323L Husqvarna trimmer


This sounds like the carb needs to be adjusted like it is letting to much fuel into the cylinder. There is supposed to be fuel and air mixture in the cylinder to make it fire. If there is to much fuel what will happen is that it will just build up in there and the air wont get hot enough as it compresses to start the engine.
