Is not that hard but before you start this task you should un plug any cable at least half hour before for better results. theres a press pin in the middle just pull it out and all the type molex connectors...replace the power supply for an compatible psu...the same watts power is very inportant in order to avoid blue screens and boot failures..good look

Pavilion 7955 , 1997 year.a very old Pentium 4 , Desktop the PSU is bad.
its only worth for the trash, any P4 puter, it's junk .

4.75vdc is low as is allowed.
did you jumper test the PSU first.

the MOBO and thE PSU can both turn it off.
so can shorted modules, remove all not needed things first.
dvd , and all hdd .
all usb.
all memory but 1 stick in bank 0
even remove video card. if it has one, must now turn on.

unplug the 24pin, and place the jumper seen here
the PSU must run, if not the PSU IS TOAST.
if it does run we top the mobo unloading, of all things that can short out..

Dell Inspiron desktop, will not power up.

hi!,
ok, is there any voltage appear in one of the terminal of psu or power supply is the fan of psu is running,if you suspected your psu is running or not try to unplug and disconnect your psu from the mother board, then bigger socket that contain 24 pin with different color of your psu try to connect the two pin that has a color blue and green by a small wire about 2 inches slotted at both end.then put power if the fan is run its good may be your memory or video card or processor is defected if your psu does not run replace.

***I'm pretty sure your power supply is dead, you will either #1 take to repair shop or #2 replace it yourself.

The Best Value 550W Gold PSU 12cm 24-Pin 550 PSU is compatible.

The Corsair Memory 550W VX PSU is compatible and Corsair is an excellent brand, but you may have an issue locating the excess power connectors inside the case.

The Xilence XP480-12R Power 480W Quiet PSU would be fine, providiing the "hard drive connectors:2', are 4-pin Molex connectors.

I bought a HP 6710f Pavillion desktop, running windows 7, and found out it only has a 250 watt power supply. I turned around and bought an Antec Greenwatts 500 watt ATX 12v v2.3 psu to install for future...

Presuming you mean the Earthwatts 500:
Should work, though the Earthwatts has the 24 pin ATX instead of the 20-pin.
http://www.atxpowersupplies.com/manuals/Antec-Earthwatts-EA-500D-user-manual.pdf
You just need to snap the 24-pin connector apart to make it work as a 20-pin. It can be snapped back together for future motherboards.
The Bestec is just a standard ATX power supply

Check that the ram memory hasn't come unseated from the mobo. If you are using an above board video card also check that it is properly seated as well.

The clicking noise from the PSU is kinda perplexing though...

Hp media centre m1180n wont power up after power cut

most likely it was the psu. You can actually test it yourself by buying a psu tester made by Antec that you should be able to buy in stores. It's a cheaper alternative to buying a PSU and just hoping that was the problem.
