Remove your battery pack. Open the case and replace your RTC battery at the moment then try powering up your system again.

How can i see files created in windows os after installing ubuntu 14.04 tls

when you computer turns on it should automatically ask you what os you would like to boot from. on a side note of you go into your harddrive you should find a folder named "windows" or
"windows old" and all the files you saved should be in there. seems to me that u install'd ubuntu over windows and now only have ubuntu on your computer... but you should still have that windows folder if you chose not to delete you files.making a new partition does not mean you will have 2 os's on your computer... hope this all helps.

Yes as long as you make sure in BIOS you have it set to boot from USB before the HDD.
On the Ubuntu site from the download page are instructions on how to create a bootable USB for Ubuntu.

Comment if you need any further help.

Os can't boot from hdd

you must use livecd to boot your hdd, then back up all your files to an external hdd, then you are going to reformat your drive to boot it normally.use a working pc to get files..in iso format...save it then burn with your iso burner..you can get the files here>http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
After you've burning, turn on your not booting machine ,place it to cd drive of your machine and it boots, insert your usb or an external hdd then copy all files needed

The easiest way to narrow down the problem would be to boot the computer with a copy of Ubuntu.

You can either create a boot cd or convert a flash drive into a bootable drive. The flash drive boots much much quicker so I definitely recommend you following the creation method for that on Ubuntu's download page. If you don't have a flash drive, don't worry, the boot cd will still work ;)

One thing to note is your computer's boot order. Usually pressing F12 on a Gateway will bring up a temporary menu so you can select your copy of Ubuntu. If not enter the BIOS setup menu and change your boot order.

Once the Ubuntu launch screen comes up just choose TRY UBUNTU this will create a live session.

If Ubuntu works without any hitches then it's likely a Windows software issue OR a hardware issue.

You can run a trail version of HDD REGENERATOR to physically scan the hard drive exactly like Ubuntu, LIVE.

If it comes back clean then YES, it's a windows software issue. Which entails more testing and button pushing.

Try the above and let me know how everything turns out.

Dell Latitude D410 - OS won't boot only after a few minutes

Seeing that both OS's (Windows XP and Ubuntu) are having a problem booting up, I also think the problem is with your HDD. I think you have a pretty good idea about computers from your use of terms :) There may be some corruption with the HDD. I would check that out first.
Good luck with your problem and thanks for using FixYa.com!!

External hard drive please helpmalfunctioned when

Well if the Ext. HDD is making any kind of noise like spinning up
and spinning down , or a clicking sound the unit may possibly
never run again , if the unit does boot but is not recognized by
your computer try troubleshooting start first with the power outlet
then the power cord then the data cord , make sure its running
when your computer is turned on , there is only one connection
from an Ext. HDD to the computer and that's its data cord , if its
a 3.5 HDD install it into a PC as a slave to try to recover the data
and never for any circumstances place an OS on your static Ext.
HDD , if your HDD never turns on again there are many services
online who specialize in HDD data recovery , if you attempt it
yourself you'll need a pretty close match HDD , a very clean
room a pair of non-powder latex gloves and some tiny Torx
head drivers , a clicking sound is the pick up heads , a spinning
up and down sound is the motor , if the unit needs to be formatted again you will loose the data that is stored on it
sorry I can only help so much , and troubleshooting is always
the best bet , try taking the enclosure case apart and make sure
everything is connected .

Did you try booting from the Ubuntu cd and ran the desktop live cd demo ? That will bypass the windows drivers and uses ubuntu stuff only so if that worked your instal should have worked. It sounds like it doesn't like your video card as a guess.

I've never had that problem in a install but I would bet they have on the ubuntu support forum.

http://ubuntuforums.org/

I think you will be able to get your answer there. If you can't find it using the search ( I tried. didn't) then post it and give a bit more info such as ubuntu version, and so on. Lots of good help there. Once you get it running you will be quite happy with it.
