First you need to make a VPN connection through the router to the video server. It needs to connect to the ip number of the video recorder or the computer. Once you can connect to that ip number than you need to run the QV software which will connect to the server and display the images. It needs to be a fixed ip number.

The router needs to be able to support vpn tunneling. Some don't. You need to set up a login that goes just to that vpn number and no where else.

Then you need to get the VPN software that works with that router.

Then you'd connect to the VPN connection from any machine, any location and login. When you have the tunnel established you should be able to see the ip number for the recorder. Then you start the QV software, tell it the IP number on the lan, the recorder number. Enter the password and logon. Then you should be able to view from anywhere.

You need a different VPN for each machine you use to view it from. For instance if you use a desktop machine at one location but also want to view it via your laptop you would need 2 vpn's set up. Each must be routed and the rules followed and the correct passwords to make connection. Also the QV software needs to be on each machine too.

Without the VPN you wouldn't be able to connect to it over the net.

1. Set up and test VPN tunnel. Route it properly and secure it.
2. Create login and password for the VPN.
3. Set up the QV software.

WRT160N current time not available

Log on to your router as the administrator. On the setup screen, set the correct time zone and save your settings. If you have your router properly installed and set up (using the wizard or the manual), the correct router time will be shown on the Router screen. Router time is obtained from the internet automatically, so the time should be correct unless it is being blocked by a setting or some other device.

If you do not have a copy of your manual, you may obtain one here:

Hi, Please help me I have one pc having DSL internet connection with usb modem, I shared connection through ip and my other pc i made it obtain Ip automatically and I am getting internet...

If both your clients and your on the same Lan connection ( and I don't think they are on the same LAN NETWORK), you have to add his computer to your workgroup, in the meantime, you have to change one of the two ip addresses so that connection will be possible, otherwise never. If you are not on the same Lan connection, there's no possibility doing this way, you have to use a remote desktop tool like Teamviewer or LogMeIn etc...

If they are connected to a Server, then you have to configure it from the server, or if connected through a Router (You'll need to properly setup the Vlan with the switch/es), then setup from the router.. etc..etc...

If both the computers are connected to the Internet, you better opt for Teamview, with teamviewer you can access everything (don't configure anything during the setup installation) on each other's computer... File sharing, transferring, remote access as you work on that computer..etc..

You can download TeamViewer free from here (click here).

As you know, networking is very complex and it's not so simple to read and follow the steps through instructions without proper understanding of the concepts..

If you need further help, let me know.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

I lost my set up disc for my belkin n wireless router . F5D8236-4

If you can't obtain a copy of the disc go to the Belkin web site (, find your router model and download the user manual. Read the "Alternate Setup Method" section. The Belkin manuals have lots of configuration information so you'll need to read through a bit of tech stuff but it's all there. Here are a couple of tips not mentioned tho ... first, find the reset button and press it to clear all previous settings and, second, unplug the router from the internet before doing any of this. Once you press the reset button the router is no longer password protected and anyone can access it from the internet. The chance that someone is scanning the 'net for your router at that point in time might be small but better to be safe than sorry.

No zone 2 sound coming from yamaha amp rx-v861

We had the same problem - I think it was reset when the power went off in a storm. Went to Yamaha website ( and found the following worked:

Assigning the receivers internal amp for Zone 2:
  1. Set the remote control [SIDE SELECTOR SWITCH] to [AMP]. (Located to the right of the volume buttons on the Remote).
  2. Press the [SET MENU] button on the remote control.
  3. Arrow down to Manual Setup and press the [ENTER] button on the remote control.
  4. Arrow to the Sound Menu option and press the [ENTER] button on the remote control.
  5. Arrow to Speaker Set and press the [ENTER] button on the remote control.
  6. Arrow to the EXTRA SP ASSIGN and select ZONE2
  7. Press the [RETURN] button on the remote control to exit out and return to the Manual Setup.
