Question about Roland Microcube Guitar Amplifier

1 Answer

Microcube volume kind of goes up and down itself. It is noticed when playing long notes, volume goes almost off and in next second it is ok. Any hints where to start fix the problem. another problem is that I have repairing skills based on roadeitape and hammer.

When playing the volume goes in and out (meaning it will just go louder or softer randomly). Have no service center in my state and need help with this.

I would try cleaning the jacks and the input volume pots as a starting point. You can always remove the electronics and ship them to a service center. If it's not in warranty, you can just take it to any local repair shop.

The volume on my "Clavinova" keeps rising and falling for no reason.

The most common cause is damage to the volume potentiometer.
Replace it.

Subwoofer ain't doing anything on peavey triflex

Could be a few issues. If it is powered up when you plug it in, it might have a short circuit protection that shuts it down, or a thermal overload that is over sensitive. It might also be an issue with the cable you are using to connect it, from a broken wire to one that has a plug just slightly too long- there are 5 different tip lengths.

This also assumes the input itself is not being over driven, and that the output is not shorting out either..

Each key has two contacts. One closes first and then the other. This allows the processor to measure the key velocity which is then used to control volume. The key contacts are conductive rubber "pills" pressed onto circuit board traces. Clean them ONLY with 99% isoprophyl alcohol and Q tips. The disassembly of the unit to access these is NOT for the inexperienced so you might want to take it to a repir shop. Here is a service manual for a Casio 811 which is totally different packaging than yours, HOWEVER the keyboard itself will be similar and you will get an idea what is involved with getting into one of these things:

Scroll down to "get manual" and click to download... IGNORE other download links.
The keyboard exploded view is around page 32 in this manual.

Such a long delay and a slow return to volume is puzzling. If the return came back in say 30 seconds, I would suspect 1/2 of the V1 tube (12AX7) might have a failure of the heater. When it has failed see if this tube has TWO points of light in it. The cooling down and warm up would give a 15 second ramp up or down in volume. This tube has a path around it that would sustain a very low volume. Try swapping one of the other 12AX7's into this spot. If the sound totally goes away replace the one that was in V1 at first place and see if problem goes away.

This is a tiny amp good for practice at low volume levels. You are likely overdriving it and the power amp chip goes into thermal protect. If you volume level is much louder than a small boom box, you are driving it too hard. Best to get a bigger amp.

First thing would be try another guitar with the amp. This will eliminate if it's a problem with the guitar or the amp itself. If the guitar is working properly then check all the tubes to be sure they are all seated into there slots completely. Depending on how much use they have been played it may be a good suggestion to then replace your tube's. Occationally the tubes will start loosing power, making sound fluctuate up and down or distortion sounding static in background noise. You will notice a big difference with newer tube. But remember the bias must be set correctly to match the new tubes so they won't over heat. You can check out youtube for setting the bias. Anyway this is my suggestion and I wish you good luck.

When playing on the metal channel the guitar will go clean then back to distortion then clean. When it goes clean the volume drops way down. Any suggestions?

Tha might be a cold solder joint, if you can access the Printed Circuit Board, try hitting it with the handle of a screwdriver in various zones. If you notice the problem comes and goes while doing this, then your'e close to the zone where resoldering is needed.

Instead of waiting a day, cool the thing down as quickly as you can and try it to see if it is a therma; problem.

You MAY be driving it too hard and the amp chip is going into thermal shutdown... This is a small amp and not intended for major loud use.

TRY playing softer and see if it lasts longer before failing. If you are overheating the internal chip because you want it loud, best to get a bigger amp...

Next test is to turn it on but DON'T play for a time period of more than the usual few songs and then see if it is already dead or you have to play awhile before it fails.
