Good day.
Please check capacitors along the flyback section for leakage. Also, please consider loose contacts along the circuitry.

Our sony trinitron 27" wega less than 5 yrs old..when powered up flickered off three times now stays on but the color is very red no matter if we reset or do a color adjust or unplug it from the cable box...

sometimes picture tube tvs develop shorts between the internal electrodes usually cathodes to filaments causing the one or more of the guns inside the tube to go high in emission, when this happens the screen or picture you see will get excessively in this case red and some horizontal diagonal lines will also show causing the tv to shut down, another condition that may cause an excessive red screen may be a failure of one of the voltage source that feeds the color amp in this case the red ampl, this also may cause the retrace lines and tv shutdown.i hope this explanation helps you better understand what might be going on with your tv. In both cases technical analysis will be required and in some cases even the picture tube condition can be corrected with out having to resort to a picture tube replacement. i hope i answer the your inquiry to your liking and if so please let this site know by leaving some pos feedback.

The picture on TV is red

If your able to take the back off and have experience in soldering then you can look on the CRT board on the picture tube for cold solder joints, it should be quite visible. There are 3 transistors that look identical so I would look those over closely. Those are your Red, Green and Blue Video outputs. If you choose not to and want to take it in to a service center try and find one with Free Est. Notice on your screen if you have diagonal lines, if you don't, that's a good sign. Let me know what you decide!

Sony trinitron xbr red diagonal lines appears then screen turns red and then shuts off. The red led light blinks 7 times. Please Help!!!

In cannot remember if this model of set uses on the CRT drive board a drive IC for the CRT colour channels, or if it uses descrete transistors. I have had component failure on this board that causes your description. The failure in your case would be with the red channel drive. Most of the time I had the semiconductors fail, and some of the support components.

Most of the time, a failure on this board is caused by some intermittant internal arching inside of the CRT. If this happens, the CRT is starting go defective.

Another cause of this fault is that the CRT is starting to go internaly shorted between the control grid and screen grid. As it heats up, the shorting becomes lower in resistance, and thus causes the pricture to go brighter until the protection turns it off. This would be with the red electron-gun.

With any failure with the CRT, the set is not worth to fix even if you can find a CRT for it.

Sony kv35s66: No picture, just sound and red blinking

This should be a quick fix. Try resoldering the vertical IC. This is a small flat IC attached to a heat sink with about 11 pins. It should be marked LA7837 or something similar. That should resolve the problem.

Keep us posted.

Samsung TV

Hi.

Just read your list of problems The first fault (Diagonal lines & picture collapse from left & right) Sounded like either A poor connection or dry solder joint either on scan coils or scan coil plug / socket on main pcb.
If this were the case the engineer that called out should have spotted this & sorted it very easily. But you say it is still the same so what did he do ?
Did he give you a reciept with break down of what he did ? If yes please post it here for me to go over.

The sound problem you describe has thrown me a little so could you please post your tv model number on this page so I can see if this is a stock fault.

The static shocks you are getting is relatively normal & not a problem unless you are getting them off of speaker grilles or even tv casing if it is silver in colour.
I am UK based & have access to samsung technical but I will need your tv model number.

Power on problem

Many of the later model Sony TV?s have a built in self-diagnosis function. AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks 5 times for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. In other words, the IC chips on the Cboard are burned out. This repair is not one that should be attempted by the end user. This repair will need special test equipment. You will need to take it in for repair. It shouldn't cost more than $170-$200. This is cheaper than a new TV set.

Red diagonal spottted lines

These are called retrace lines they occur because of the blanking pulse not turning off the electron guns in the picture tube during the retrace period. Since this is occuring with the red gun there may be a proble with the video circuitry connected to the red electron gun of the picture tube. This would include the red amp and the red driver transistors. You will need a schematic and a multimeter to properly test these items.

Red lines across screen

wow this set has several problems that cause almost the same symtoms. There is a b+ filter cap off the flyback that supplys screen drive voltage th the crt that gets leaky and gets warm when the sets on. Also theres a resistor that feeds the voltage that gets warm and a cold solder connection appears but its dosent look like a bad solder connection so just resolder it. as a matter of fact most of those largewr resistors in this set causes all sorts of complaints soI resolder most of them just to stop any problems and a friend in the tv business still told me in one case he had an intermittant crt. and x ray protection cuircut problems.. Hope this helps GOOD LUCK
