Question about Craftsman 17.5 hp 42 in. Deck Lawn Tractor - CA Model

1 Answer

I have a Craftsman LT1000, 42 inch. When I let out the clutch after putting it in forward or reverse, it screeches and doesn't move. It started ok, but I stopped in backing it out to avoid hitting something. When I put it in forward, the screeching started. Now it scheeches both when going forward and in reverse.

Hello. Check the belt(s). That squeal usually means that a belt has slipped out of a pulley.!

The transmission belt is probably loose or the clutch is faulty.

2 things, one, the belt jumped track, broke, or melted in place, 2, the hydrostatic ****** is out of oil, you didn't say if it was hydro or not. I doubt that the gear box has gone bad, but I would put more blame on a belt or pulley. Check it out. Hope this helps.

I have a 2010 Nissan Qashqai Accenta... 25000 km's on the clock. Lately I've been having a lot of trouble getting my car into reverse gear... the dealer has checked the gearbox, and the clutch, but...

it is normal
the reverse gears are no synchro and are what is known as spur cut gears or straight cut gears
that means that on occasions they will hit on the ends of the gears they are engaging and so not mesh
letting the foot of the clutch allows one set of gears to move so allowing selection --you may have to do so a few times to get engagement
reverse is the problem gears and happens on all of manual gear boxes
It be a matter of you changing the time from clutch action to selecting gears so that a shaft is still moving as you select reverse
