Check the hoses for a clog. Sometimes the hoses themselves will get clogged and cut off suction -- other times it happens between the beater brush and the hose (within the cleaning head itself). If this is the case, when you turn on the vacuum it will make a higher pitch sound than normal, and sound like it is working really hard, even thought there is no suction. If you can't reach the clog, but you have found it in the hose, you can usually use a coat hanger to either loosen it up or remove it completely from the hose. If this does not work, you can try loosening the clog with another vacuum. Just use the second vacuum to reverse the normal air-flow through the hose ... sometimes this will loosen it up and get your equipment to work.

Eureka lightforce 300 poor suction, power paw doesn't spin and self cleaning duster doesn't clean its self when the button is depressed.

When this happens to me I do two things. The first is to empty the cannister but when you do (with the vacuum unplugged) stick your hand up inside of where the cannister goes.Sometimes that is filled with debris. Pull as much as you can out. There is another part inside there that you can twist and pull out - this will help you pull out more of the trapped debris. Replace that part and the cannister - usually there's a blockage and just removing some of that debris will cause a bunch more to dump in to the cannister. You may have to repeat this process two or 3 times untill no more debris comes out when you turn the vacuum back on.

The second tip solution is to clean the filter which can be found on the front of the vacuum. There's a clear plastic cover, a black rectangular this that hold the filter sponge and inside of that, the filter sponge. I just rinse the little sponge inside and shake off the thing that holds the sponge (Sorry, don't know the technical terms). Put it back together and you should have suction - viola.

Hope this helps.

My Miele S3141 canister began acting strange this morning. No suction...so I took off the hose and checked for blockage, (nothing). Now I can't get the hose back on the canister. It just slips ar

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
Air filter:
If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up dirt and has no suction the air filter might be clogged. Remove the filter and either clean or replace it as needed.
Exhaust Filter If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the exhaust filter might be clogged. Remove and clean the filter, replace it if its torn or damaged.

Vacuum Hose If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the vacuum hose might be clogged. Remove the hose from the vacuum cleaner, stretch it out straight, shine a bright flashlight in one end and try to see light through it. If no light can be seen, use something to run through the hose and free up the obstruction.
Vacuum Bag If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the vacuum bag might be full. Clean or replace the bag as recommended by the manufacturer.

Dust Cup AssemblyIf the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the dust cup assembly might not be installed tightly, or it might be cracked or broken. The dust cup must seal tightly in order to produce the right amount of suction. If it is cracked or broken, replace it. Most glues and adhesives will not successfully seal the crack.
Blower Wheel If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and there is no suction, the blower wheel might be jammed or broken. Check the blower wheel to be certain it turns freely. If it doesn't, check to see if there is anything rubbing against it. If not, but it's hard to turn, the motor is most likely the problem.

Doesn't seem to be sucking up dirt well

Bagless vacuum cleaners leave the bulk dirt in a receiver, but they still rely on a paper air filter to trap fine particles of dust. All the air that the vacuum moves passes through that paper filter. When the filter plugs up, it has to be cleaned or replaced. The bagless "primary filters" are much more expensive than vacuum cleaner bags, but if you can afford to replace it whenever the machine's suction is impeded, its the tidyest solution. You can remove the filter and tap it inside a waste can to dislodge some of the dirt that's plugging it. You can use another vacuum cleaner to clean it somewhat better than just tapping it. (It doesn't have to be *your* other vacuum cleaner, it could be borrowed, at the car wash, etc.) You can use compressed air to almost all of of the dirt plugging it, but you'll want to do it outside somewhere that making a clod of dust is acceptable or at least unnoticed. After a dozen or more cleanings the pores of the paper filter will become too plugged to clean well even with compressed air and it will have to be replaced.

Pet hair, sand and large particulate are least likely to plug these filters. Kitty littler, which is pressed pellets of fine clay, clogs these filters very rapidly. The clay pellets break up into very fine dust as they pass through the vacuum and whirl in the dirt cannister. Avoid vacuuming kitty litter, or any other fine clay into a bagless machine as much as possible.

Dyson DC14 Animal: Loses suction when in the upright postion and I am using the wand. I have cleaned the top spongy filter. It sort of 'blows' out of the top of the cylinder if that makes sens

Hi Sharon,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC14. If the machine doesn't seem to be picking up as well as usual through the wand, this may be due to a blockage in the wand, hose or U-bend. The easiest way to check for this is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

http://support.dyson.co.uk/support/dc14/dc14-origin-iron/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/how-to-wash-filters/wand-suction

Although I note you've cleaned the filter, you might want to check you've washed it as shown in the video below - in normal use, this should be done at least once every 3-6 months. Wash both parts of the filter in cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for it to dry before replacing it.

This should resolve your issue, but for any further assistance, please call us free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US), so we can help.

Best wishes,

Low suction

Hi Megan,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17. If it doesn't seem to be picking up as well as usual, you may have a blockage somewhere in the machine. To check for this, please follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=954&product=DC17-ANIMAL

Although I note you've already cleaned the filter, please see the video below to check you've done it correctly. In normal use, the filter should be washed at least once every 3-6 months in cold water. Don't use detergent, and allow at least 24 hours for it to dry completely before replacing it.

This should resolve your issue, but if you need any further assistance, please call us free on 1-866-693-9766, or email askdysonUS@dyson.com so we can help.

Hi, We have a 3 month old Dyson DC33. I have noticed a lack in suction on the baseless but when upright the wand suction seems to be fine. Base plate is correctly fitted, brush bar turns fine and there...

Dear Andy,

I'm sorry to hear you're concerned about your DC33. Please note that for high pick-up, the soleplate has to form a close seal with the floor surface, which is why you may not have detected much suction through the cleaner head when you laid the machine on it's side.

However, if the cleaner doesn't seem to be picking up as well as usual in normal use, you may need to give the filters a wash - this should be done at least once every 3 months. Use cold water without detergent, and allow up to 24 hours for the filters to dry completely before replacing them. The correct way to wash the filters is shown in the step-by-step guide linked below:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1415&product=DC33-MULTIFLOOR

Hopefully this answers all of your queries, but if you feel you need further assistance, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you recommend the best course of action.

I've bought a dyson dc07 upright vacuum and need to know how to get suction through the hose as opposed to the main machine.

Hi there,

When the cleaner is standing in the upright position, it's engineered to divert suction automatically from the cleaner head to the hose. The correct way to use the hose, wand and dusting tools is shown in the user guide:

http://media.dyson.com/downloads/us/floorcare/manuals/dc07_opmanual_usa.pdf

If there doesn't seem to be any suction coming through the hose when the cleaner is standing upright, you may need to check the machine for blockages. The easiest way to do this is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=4&product=DC07-SY-HEPA_US

It's also a good idea to give the filter a wash, as demonstrated in the video below. Under normal use, this should be done at least once every 3-6 months. Use cold water without any detergents, and always make sure the filter is totally dry before replacing it - this may take up to 24 hours.

By clearing any obstructions and washing the filter, you should be able to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've tried this and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you recommend the best course of action.

Check to see if the brush is turning when you have the vac on and the handel down 'of course keep your hands from that area when doing this ,you might have to lean the vac ,to see the resaults.
