Your teacher has 64 old math books.

Define the variables:

n = the total number of books x + y = the number of books divided into two groups (x being one set of books and y the other)

Equation set-up from the problem:

64(x - y) = x^2 - y^2

Work it out:

64(x - y) = (x + y)(x - y)

__64(x - y)__ = __(x + y)(x - y)__
(x - y) (x - y)

64 = (x + y)

Therefore, 64 = n

HA well im answering this with experiences of my math teacher Try to tell interesting stories about math (even if your exagerationg a little) with yourself in those stories also if that doesnt work make jokes durring the class not to the point where u offend your students but make them pretty bizzar and your students will buffen up to math. Also try to lower your homework if your giving a lot and gradually work your way up to ur current amount

- First of all you have to arrange them in increasing OR decreasing order. When you rearrange they are: 5, 8,
**9**, 11, 12 - Now look which number is in the middle. That is the median.
- So the answer is 9. The teacher is right.
